Hutchinsons Head of Agroecology Services Ed Brown has seen great soil health improvement in this field at March House Farm! - Timeline of the field: April 21 - First picture, severely compacted, black grass infested, VESS score 4/5 Sept 21 - Ploughed, gypsum, hybrid winter barley July 22 - FYM applied with more gypsum. Multi species cover crop drilled Winter 22 - Sheep grazed March 23 - Direct drilled spring beans May 23 - Second picture. VESS 1/2, water infiltration remarkable given recent rain, black grass levels very low. Hard to believe it’s the same field! There’s nothing revolutionary here, just a clear understanding of the issues and the excellent execution of a solid plan.
