Replying to @SenatorMcDowell
@SenatorMcDowell highlights the unworkable Enduring Power of Attorney regime, introduced with disregard of those it purports to protect, and of solicitors’ recommendations. No surprise that making of EPAs has plummeted.

It’s amazing how government policy in key areas of legal dispute centers around mediation and alternative dispute resolution. And yet they won’t engage in mediation themselves with millions or euros being spent on unlawful detention cases in the High Court and a collapsing court system. Another @EUCourtPress judgment prioritising narrow dogmatic GDPR interpretation (T-798/24) over the public interest, this time regarding disclosure of identity of PLC shareholders. Press release issued here: curia.europa.eu/site/upload/…
The current edition of @The_Parchment, the magazine of the @DSBA2022 has a terrific article by the Irish Legal History Society's @felixmlarkin, on lawyers in cartoons. Read at this link (p. 28) issuu.com/256media/docs/parc…

This from @Geoffrey_Cox was titanic - a truly beautiful speech.
He outshone those sat opposite. They could only watch. And nervously laugh.
This should be seen by every new MP to understand what they do, & every new barrister to understand what we do.

The proposal that criminal legal aid lawyers should be paid an arbitrary fixed fee for every case, regardless of work to be done, is illogical and unfair. Reminiscent of TV show 'Deal or No Deal'. Do you do the work, i.e. take what's in the box?

Ownership details of stock market firms could be hidden from public independent.ie/business/owne…
Another appalling misdirection of law from EU institutions obsessed with GDPR. It's one thing to look for privacy about who owns private companies (sort of) but now they want to suppress public access to ownership of public companies. Insider dealing ahoy!
