SIMON KOLAWOLE: “For some people, if their preferred candidate is not declared the winner, then the election must have been rigged. True, rigging is a fact — it is undeniable — but it is not always the reason people lose elections. For instance, until his death, Buhari believed that he won the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections but was rigged out. In 2011, he even alleged that a software in INEC’s computers reduced his votes by 40 percent. He was convinced his huge popularity in the core north was enough to make him president. But no candidate has ever won the presidential election by being popular in just one section of the country. You need other sections as well — as Buhari eventually realised in 2015. It is worrisome that many people do not countenance the fact that Nigeria has 36 states, the FCT, six geopolitical zones and 774 local government areas. More than 20 million Nigerians regularly vote in presidential elections. Different interests motivate them. Some are moved by ethnic and religious sentiments; some, political affinity; some, party affiliation; some, ideals and policies; and some, “stomach infrastructure”. Moreover, voters in rural areas, semi-urban towns and big cities behave differently when it comes to voting. Social media and WhatsApp cannot capture every sentiment.”

Two of my neighbors did illegal connection and a bypass in their prepaid meters.
So the electricity officers came to visit.
They said that they have been monitoring their meters from their office for months.
They observed that they had only been recharging with N10k every few months, and the payments weren't regular.
So they decided to come do an inspection.
That was how they found out.
Neighbors are denying that they did anything illegal.
Officers say they lied about not having illegal connections.
Na so dem disconnect them ooo.
My wife was telling me that those neighbors are always leaving their ACs on, and she had been wondering why. They don't use an inverter or solar.
Now they're in darkness.
For the past two days, their generator has just been making noise in the compound.
Me wey dey spend like 70-80k each month, dem no born me well to use AC anyhow.
Even fridge sef, we dey off am after sometime.
I don't know sha, but I am happy they were caught😂.
End.

OBITUARY: Francis Duru — how failing JAMB set a bus conductor on the path to becoming Nollywood legend
Francis Duru, the acclaimed Nigerian actor whose journey from bus conductor to Nollywood legend was defined by his belief that “life is about donation, not duration,” died on Friday at the age of 59 following a brief illness. His death left fans, colleagues, and the many young creatives he mentored in shock.
Duru was born on July 27, 1967 — not 1969, as some reports claimed, making him 59 at the time of his death. In an interview two months ago, he recalled celebrating his 59th birthday on a movie set.
“Yes, I’m 59 years already. What is different about this age is that I celebrated this particular birthday inside the bush while on set, with agidi and pepper soup,” he had said.
“Beyond that, you begin to look at life from a totally different perspective, and I look at life now from the point of gratitude. When I look back at 59 years, I begin to ask questions. Colleagues and friends I was with have passed on. It is not as if I am the most perfect; it is just the grace of God in our lives. So when I look at it, I see grace at work.”
While awaiting admission, he lived with his uncle in Obigbo, Rivers, helping run his uncle’s transport business as an administrative assistant and bus conductor. During this waiting period, Duru found acting, a career he described as a “divine process”. A casual visit to a drama rehearsal in Port Harcourt would change his life. Duru had followed a friend to the rehearsal to pass the time when the actor slated to play a Calabar man failed to show. Asked who could speak like an Akwa Ibom man, Duru volunteered and landed his first role on the spot. He went on to feature in several movies across different genres.

🇳🇬 He was supposed to be unstoppable. He was 19 years old, a Champions League winner with Ajax, and the captain of Nigeria’s golden Olympic generation.
He had just conquered the world at the Atlanta Olympics, scoring a legendary golden goal against Brazil and leading his country to the most unlikely gold medal in football history.
He was 6ft 5in of pure, effortless grace. A footballer who glided rather than ran, who saw angles no one else could see.
He completed his dream move to Inter Milan. He had the world at his feet.
Then, the world stopped. It was during a routine medical examination with his new club in Milan. The doctors found something unexpected.
A defect in his aortic valve. A congenital heart condition that had been silently threatening his life.
The diagnosis was brutal. The doctors told him he would probably never play football again. Some even whispered that he might not live long enough to see his 21st birthday.
In a single afternoon, the invincible teenager was reduced to a patient. The man who was supposed to conquer Europe was suddenly fighting for his life.
In November 1996, Nwankwo Kanu underwent open-heart surgery in Cleveland, USA, to replace his faulty aortic valve.
He spent 16 months out of the game. Imagine the silence. Imagine the fear. A young man, thousands of miles from home, with a scar down his chest, wondering if he would ever kick a ball again.
Against all odds, he returned to the pitch, pulled on the Nerazzurri shirt, and finally made his debut for Inter Milan, proving the doubters wrong.
He later admitted: "Now I know that being fit and strong doesn't make your heart 100%."
The football world moved on. Inter Milan signed Ronaldo. The headlines moved to the next big thing. Kanu was written off as a tragedy.
But they forgot who he was. In 1999, Arsene Wenger took a gamble. He brought Kanu to Arsenal for a reported £4.15 million.
Many thought Wenger was signing a shadow of a player. A man whose body had betrayed him.
They were wrong. On October 23, 1999, Arsenal were 2-0 down to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with 15 minutes left.
Chelsea had not conceded a single home league goal all season.
Then, Kanu happened. He scored a scrappy goal with 15 minutes to go. He equalised with a sublime turn and shot with eight minutes left.
And then, in the final minute, he danced past a stranded Ed de Goey from an impossible angle to win the game 3-2.
It was a hat-trick that defied belief. It was the moment the world realised that the man with the scarred chest was not just a survivor. He was a miracle.
Kanu went on to win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Arsenal. He was part of the legendary 'Invincibles' side that went a whole season unbeaten.
He became a cult hero, not just for his goals, but for his spirit.
But his greatest legacy is not on the pitch. The boy who nearly died on an operating table became the man who saved hundreds of lives. In 2000, he set up the Kanu Heart Foundation.
The foundation has funded life-saving heart operations for over 600 children across Africa.
"As a footballer you win trophies," Kanu said. "But this is so much more."
Nwankwo Kanu was supposed to be a football statistic. A talent lost to a cruel twist of fate, but he became something far greater. He became proof that a broken heart can still beat stronger than anyone ever imagined.

Deeney: "Bayern have not been the same, what about the Bundesliga? They've been terrible."
Bayern's four home results so far this season before playing Arsenal.
Bundesliga:
Stuttgart: 5-1
Union Berlin: 7-0
Leipzig: 6-1
UCL
Bodo/Glimt: 5-0
Played 4, won 4, scored 23, conceded 2.
Honestly, this is the analysis people who pay money for subscriptions get?
There is no other team than Arsenal that could go away to Bayern, play really well, have a great game and come away with a deserved 2-2 draw and still get criticised.
Just complete and utter waffle of the highest order.
"It was just a performance that left me confused... I thought it was a game Arsenal should win and that's a credit to Arsenal."
@T_Deeney believes Arsenal could have given more to win the game 🗣️

My three friends, Bola, Biola, and Lola, and I were proactive about the protest, as we stationed ourselves at the Alausa, Ikeja barricade. They said we should join them at the Lekki Toll Gate on 20-10-20. We got into our cars, but when we arrived in Gbagada, my car broke down near Gbagada General Hospital.
They waited while my mechanic worked on the car. The hours passed, and before we knew it, it was approaching 6 p.m. I told them to go ahead without me and promised to join them later that night.
After my car was finally fixed at exactly 7:35 p.m., I started the engine and was about to accelerate when my mother's call came in.
"Seun, if you have been at the protest ground, you have tried your best, and it is time for you to go home."
This was after Sanwo-Olu had issued a stern warning to everyone. My mum did not just advise me to go home; she pleaded with me to leave.
I called my friends and asked them to return to the mainland. They refused. They were adamant that they wanted to fight for the country. They said they were tired of the state of the nation and that it was either now or never.
At 8 p.m., I went on my socials and saw DJ Switch's Instagram Live broadcast. The Nigerian Army was already firing sporadically, initially shooting into the air to scare the protesters away. But the protesters insisted they were not cowards and stood their ground.
By 8:25 p.m., the soldiers had started firing live ammunition at the protesters.
Bola was not so lucky. He was hit by a bullet, and we lost him.
Following his death, his mother, who was barely 52 years old, died the following year. Despite his eldest brother relocating her to the UK in the hope that a change of environment would help her cope with Bola's death, all efforts proved futile.
We lost Bola on 20-10-2020.
We lost Bola's mum on 15-09-2021.
Rest on, Abimbola. 🕊️

ROLLER COASTAL
Mr Dave Umahi, minister of works, initially announced that President Bola Tinubu had directed that part of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway be routed through the existing East-West Road from Ondo into Edo state. Umahi called it “a wonderful engineering decision” in his usual flamboyant language. He subsequently clarified that the original coastal highway project remained intact. The explanations and clarifications have left more questions than answers. Was there a proper engineering survey? Was there an environmental impact assessment? How come the federal government is only now discovering the impact of “climate change” and “flooding challenges” on the project? Messy.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima was brutally witty at the inauguration of the APC presidential campaign council on Wednesday. “Atiku Abubakar, I will still respect him and call him a former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar,” he said, in response to Atiku’s newfound love of calling the president by his first name. “I will not follow suit with (Babachir) Lawal and call him Kachalla. No.” Kachalla is a leadership title now being used for bandit commanders. Shettima continued: “Atiku Abubakar, who [is contesting] for the presidency for the eighth time, is no Abraham Lincoln. He is more of [Raila] Odinga.” The late Odinga ran for Kenya’s presidency five times without success. Ouch!

[SIMON KOLAWOLE] "Confession: I despised Gen Sani Abacha with the same intensity Obidients hate President Bola Tinubu. I thought I had overcome the ill-feeling after 28 years. Alas, I watched ‘MKO’ — the documentary on Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola currently showing in film houses across Nigeria — and my emotions went haywire again. It brought back painful recollections of military rule and sickening memories of Abacha, the military head of state who chastised Nigeria with scorpions. Media repression and assassinations were the hallmarks of the Abacha regime. It was horror all over again. My emotions swung from nostalgia to despair, from anger to resentment. Three things hit me instantly from the documentary. One, the incredible transformation of Abiola from an establishment person to, as it were, an activist for democracy — like a prince becoming a rebel. Two, the key role Abacha played in the June 12 annulment crisis and how he became the ultimate beneficiary. Three, the place of America in the logjam and the unending suspicion that it played a role in sustaining the annulment and even in the death of Abiola. I went away with a few lessons, chief of which is that life is not black and white. Hardline positions might seem principled and desirable, but pragmatism as an option should always be on the table in playing national politics."

Inside CNG-powered transportation business: Why cheaper energy isn’t reducing fares
The federal government launched a compressed natural gas (CNG) initiative in 2023 to curb the impact of rising petrol prices on the cost of transportation. However, despite the adoption of CNG by commercial drivers, cheaper energy has not resulted in lower fares for Nigerians.
As of Monday, a litre of petrol was N1,385-N1,400 in Ogba, Lagos state, while CNG is N380 per standard cubic metre (SCM), but despite the difference in prices, TheCable gathered that bus and keke napep (tricycle) drivers plying the same road are charging passengers a similar transportation fare — CNG or no CNG.

In Nigerian journalism, ask a politician tough questions and his supporters call you an enemy.
Ask his opponent the same questions and the other side calls you a spokesman.
Apparently, objectivity is only acceptable when it agrees with you.
My job is not to defend your party. It is to ask the questions your party would rather avoid, and to give the side that isn’t in the studio a voice.
I play the devil’s advocate for every guest, regardless of party, tribe or ideology.
If my questions make you uncomfortable, don’t assume I’m against your guest. Ask whether the guest has answered them.
A journalist’s loyalty is not to a politician’s comfort, or an audience’s political tribe. It is to the public’s right to question power.
I am not here to cheer for your side. I am here to challenge every side.

JUDE EGBAS: "Gruff, a voice so husky, raspy and hoarse you could slice it with a knife, brusque mannerisms, beastly politicking, perpetually mired in controversy, and sartorial choices that border on the gaudy and garish. Yet Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dominated Rivers and national politics discourse for the better part of two decades now. He prowls the land like he owns the damn place. And just maybe he does. These days, he even summons the leading television networks in the land to his office in the federal capital every other month, lectures them on their jobs, while lobbing invectives at his political foes or whoever catches his fancy — on prime time TV no less. Minutes later, the rest of the press and social media are falling over themselves to debate what Wike said or didn’t say. He trends when he wants. He’s good for television, radio and clicks. He’s like a wrecking ball. Let’s admit it: Wike now has us all eating from his palms. We have all been Wiked. This is Wike’s world and we are all now simply living in it. We are just so embarrassed to admit it. And that’s okay."

You can’t have just 2 people in charge of a N2B fake drinks manufacturing and distribution operation. They could have arrested 20 people. 30 people. Even more if they planned their raid professionally. There are more bastard souls involved in this ‘business.’
But we seem to celebrate the bare minimum in Nigeria ☺️.
NAFDAC must work with law enforcement agencies and do more. These sons of satan are out to kill every one of you, your pregnancies, your children, and your parents while they make stupendous profits ⚠️.
Join the advocacy against fake drugs and drinks today! Call for the decentralisation of NAFDAC. Each State should have their own Drugs and Beverage Control Agency.

There’s a football pitch right next to the Third Mainland Bridge when you approach from Adekunle, that’s where I used to play on weekends. FG did that project and it was facilitated by @JideHon . For over 6 months now, it has been closed down because it’s in terrible shape. They used to charge 100k for you to play there. People even fight for dates, just to show how much patronage they get. Now that the Pitch is in bad state, they expect players to contribute to repair it. The question now is, where’s the money made from the constant usage? Shouldn’t that money be used to revamp it? That’s the state of infrastructure in Nigeria.
