Eliminating #parking minimums does not eliminate parking, current or future. What it does eliminate: Gov-mandated reqmnts that force private parties to build parking instead of higher-value assets & further entrench a modal monopoly dragging on more affordable choices. #coleg

As of today, any Coloradan can walk into a bike shop and instantly get $450 off an e-bike. No race to get a voucher, no income limits, no waiting to claim a tax credit. It's the first such program in the nation. energyoffice.colorado.gov/pr…

Enabling more housing near transit & jobs and providing tax credits to make it affordable -- makes sense, right? Thank you @Junie4Colorado @WSLindstedt @Cathy_Kipp @Kennedy4CO @RepLorenaGarcia Rep Snyder for supporting HB 1313! #ClimateAction #affordablehousing #Transit #coleg

118 people will die on our roads today. Where is the outrage? I’ve seen a lot of sensationalism around aviation lately. The fact is our aviation system is the safest in the world and all of us - investigators, regulators, airlines, employees, and manufacturers - are working to make sure it stays that way. I will say it again, the riskiest part your travel day is driving. That does not mean we don’t have more to do to ensure safety in our skies. Our work is never done. But imagine what could happen if we were just as focused on eliminating death on our roads: we could achieve zero…together. (Photo from North Las Vegas)

#Boulder folks, I have a request. I'm working on some coverage of the South Boulder Creek flood mitigation issue (which, BTW, if you haven't heard, is coming up for two public hearings at City Council this week!) and am trying to reach someone who SUPPORTS the project.

Coloradans! Two important bills are going before the state legislature. These are both an important step towards a more sustainable future. Please write your legislatures to support.
A little policy update! Currently, two bills are being considered at the state level that are key to reducing car dependency. 🅿️🏘️🧵👇 1/

Should we tax *all* vehicles proportional to road wear and other externalities like noise and air pollution, injuries and deaths? Go ahead. Make my day.

The entire aviation industry has upended itself investigate a single casualty-free incident of a door detaching from a plane. 40,000 people die in traffic crashes in the US each year, and these preventable deaths are considered 'business as usual.'

The safety of the flying public, not speed, will determine the timeline for returning the Boeing 737-9 Max to service.

70% of households in Paris no longer own a car. Commuting overwhelmingly now takes place on transit and by bike. I recall cycling in Paris 20 years ago and we were persona non grata. We took our lives into our own hands. But not today - Mayor @Anne_Hidalgo is transforming the cost of urban living - household transportation costs have plummeted as folks have ditched their cars for bikes. Both air quality and the overall health of the population in the French capital has improved too. How did she do it? She rapidly built out infrastructure to increase transportation choice, instead of railroading everyone into a single occupancy vehicle. By providing safe and comprehensive cycling infrastructure, she transformed mobility choices. #WhatGreatMayorsDo theguardian.com/cities/2023/…

We’ll say it louder for those in the back. EVS CAN CREATE MORE PARTICULATE MATTER AIR POLLUTION THAN ICE CARS. The solution for a better air quality is not to have everyone drive an EV, it’s to have less people driving by giving transportation choices like 🚲, walking & 🚌 🚊
This paper found that EVs can create more non-exhaust emissions than gas cars: doi.org/10.1016/j.scitotenv.… EVs generate less brake dust, but more tire and road dust (intuitive, given EVs' added -- and unnecessary -- power & weight). RWP = Road wear TWP = Tire wear BWP = Brake wear

Air and water pollution from motor vehicle tires is a serious issue, including micro plastic pollution damaging our oceans. This is one of several ecological problems that EVs not only do not solve, but due to their heavier weight actually make worse. slate.com/technology/2023/11…

Anyone who’s ever covered Boulder knows it isn’t a “bastion of progressive politics.” There’s so much evidence to dispel that stubbornly pervasive myth, including in the same sentence in which Axios pushes the myth: the city almost just elected a longtime Republican as mayor!

Boulder voters: ballots are due on Tuesday. If you care about climate action, housing affordability, sustainable/safe transport, I recommend voting for @ryanschuchard and @AaronBrockett12 I’ve spent time with both of them and have been impressed with their policy proposals.

The election in #Boulder is a vote on who you think is rigorous about systems solutions for affordability, #safety, & inclusion. I'm proud our local paper of record thinks that's me. Mr. Garrison for @dailycamera: “To hear him talk about policy is to witness a force of nature."
