Yesterday, I attended to several lovely patients, but one man’s story genuinely surprised me.
He’s 45 and came in complaining of blurry vision. On examination, I noticed he had manifest exotropia ( A condition where one eye turns outwards).
Out of curiosity, I asked if it was his first time seeing an eye doctor. He told me it was only his second visit. The first was when he was just 7 years old.
Apparently, the doctor had recommended treatment to align his eyes, but he refused. His reason? He felt his eyes made him unique, and he loved them that way.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that answer.
As eye care professionals, we sometimes focus so much on what we think needs correcting that we forget to consider how patients feel about their own appearance.
Of course, the clinical implications of an eye condition still matter, and patients deserve to understand them. But their feelings and perspectives matter too.
It was a good reminder that not everyone sees themselves the way the rest of the world sees them.
Sometimes, what we think needs fixing is something another person has learned to love about themselves.
You entered a room full of wisdom with just one foolishness. Guess what you came out with?
Now that the convulsing has reduced, below are stories of 2 women who lost their limbs and organs because they got pregnant.
1. In 2017, Kayleigh Ferguson-Walker, was around 6 months pregnant with her 2nd child when she suddenly became seriously ill. Her illness began like the flu: Her symptoms rapidly worsened, and she developed sepsis, a dangerous reaction to an infection that can cause organ failure and dangerously low blood pressure.
She lost her baby. Kayleigh’s condition deteriorated so severely that doctors placed her in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks.
She lost all 4 limbs: The severe disruption to her blood circulation caused tissue in her arms and legs to die. Doctors had to amputate both arms and both legs to save her life.
2. Brie Morgan Bauer, was 27 weeks pregnant with her third child in February 2024 when she suddenly became seriously ill. She developed severe complications from a rare Group A Streptococcus infection, which led to streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, a life-threatening condition. Her body went into shock, affecting her organs and blood circulation.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section on February 17, 2024. Her premature baby boy, Beau, survived, but she lost all 4 limbs. Brie was placed in a medically induced coma for around 10 days. Poor blood circulation caused severe damage to her limbs, and doctors had to amputate both arms below the elbows, her right leg at the hip, and her left leg above the knee. She also underwent a hysterectomy and additional surgeries.
However, the infection had also damaged her kidneys, leaving her dependent on regular dialysis. In March 2026, her older brother, George Morgan, donated a kidney to her, which was successful.
For the umpteenth time, mummy zee saying pregnancy is not a death sentence is not the main issue. It’s the fact that this statement undermines all the pains and losses other women have suffered just to birth a life. It was easy for her doesn’t mean others have it easy.
If after reading the stories of these 2 strong women, and you still don’t understand what I am saying, then the convulsion can continue.

Eniola, with no due respect, if brains were dynamite, you wouldn't have enough to blow your own head off.
So this is your justification to say pregnancy is a death sentence? Went online to bring few stories to justify your claim? My goodness.

There is a difference between looking rich and being financially secure.
One buys things to impress people.
The other builds savings, invests consistently, prepares for emergencies, and sleeps peacefully at night.
One needs an audience. The other needs a plan.

My seven-year-old daughter begged me to lock our bedroom door and hide her under the bed because her uncle was coming over for dinner. I thought she was having one of her childish fears—until she whispered, “Mommy, Uncle Kevin said Daddy would hate me if I told you what happened.”
I will never forgive myself for how long it took me to understand that my little girl was asking me to save her.
My daughter, Sophie, had always been affectionate. She loved pink dresses, chocolate milk, and sleeping with her bedroom light on. Her father, Marcus, used to call her his little princess, and his family praised him for being such a devoted dad.
Then his older brother, Kevin, moved into our house temporarily.
Kevin was charming, generous, and everyone’s favorite uncle. He brought Sophie presents, took family photographs, and remembered every little thing she liked. My mother even joked that he spoiled her more than her own father did.
But within a few weeks, my daughter changed.
She stopped asking when Uncle Kevin would visit. She began refusing to enter rooms where he was alone. Sometimes, when she heard his car pull into the driveway, she would run upstairs and pretend to be asleep.
Marcus thought it was ridiculous.
“She’s becoming too clingy because you never let her grow up,” he told me. “Kevin loves that girl. Stop making everything a problem.”
I believed him because I had no reason to suspect otherwise.
Then came the night that changed everything.
Kevin was expected for dinner. I was in the kitchen preparing his favorite meal when Sophie came running downstairs, barefoot and crying.
“Mommy, please tell Uncle Kevin not to come.”
I wiped her cheeks.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong? Did he say something to you?”
She shook her head so violently that I stopped asking.
Then she grabbed my wrist.
“Mommy, if I tell you, will you still love Daddy?”
I froze.
“Of course, baby. Why would you ask me that?”
She looked toward the staircase, lowered her voice, and said something that made the knife slip from my hand.
“Daddy said I must never tell you our family secret.”
Before I could ask what she meant, the front door opened.
Kevin had arrived early.
And my daughter immediately ran upstairs screaming.

I’m a reasonably attractive guy in my early thirties, and I’ve always been naturally flirty. I work in sales, where being charming is practically part of the job.
There’s a receptionist at my office who’s a few years older than me. She’s married, has two children, and is noticeably curvier than the women I usually date.
She started bringing me homemade lunches, laughing at every stupid joke I made, and finding excuses to stop by my desk. Whenever I mentioned her husband, her mood changed almost immediately.
One afternoon, we were discussing our plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. I mentioned that I’d probably be grilling burgers and hot dogs with my family.
She laughed and said, “Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I had a hot dog.”
Without thinking, I replied, “Well, I’ve got one you could try.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I realized how inappropriate they sounded. My face went hot, and I started trying to explain that I was joking.
She didn't seem offended.
Instead, she smiled and said, “Okay. Meet me in my car at lunch.”
I assumed she was teasing me, but when lunchtime arrived, she texted me her parking location.
I went out there, and what happened between us crossed a line neither of us could pretend was accidental.
When I returned to the office, I couldn't look at her without remembering what we'd done.
She, on the other hand, acted as though nothing unusual had happened.
