Breaking on pg1 of @fpjindia : TRAFFIC's latest research report says India is the destination for majority of Gibbons trafficked from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Of the 33 seizure incidents involving 86 Gibbons from Jan 2024-August 2026, 18 were at Indian airports, mainly Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
10 Gibbons intercepted by Malaysian authorities and three by Thai were also destined for India.
Gibbons are hugely popular as exotic pets in India. The babies are caught in the wild after killing their parents.

Visa, Visa-fee waiver for Indians to South-East Asian countries coincide with gibbon-trafficking incidents, should be scrutinised by authorities.
Indian authorities need to educate the rich on why keeping these primates as pets is problematic.
TRAFFIC's report calls for greater collaboration between India and south-east Asian countries to curb this trade and calls for greater detection measures by airlines.

Still chaos this morning [20/7] at #KLIA2 due to #Crowdstrike #MicrosoftOutage AA counter staff walking down lines explaining to passengers. Really surprising airport and airlines haven't deployed more info staff, can't hear any general announcements, LED billboards not used.
Crowds n queues really built up in the 2 hours was in queue. People had been calm earlier but the shouting eventually started. Serious sprinting still going on through airport #KLIA2 #bluescreen #Crowdstrike #airasia #mahb @MOTMalaysia
Arrived with luggage [yey!] despite drama. A big thank you to the super patient #AirAsia check-in staff who took the trouble to walk down the line talking to passengers in queue, keeping things calm, all while dealing with the systems issues #KLIA2 #Crowdstrike #MicrosoftOutage
