A vital topic. But concerning that there is no debate - because I don’t think there can be. But it is being touted by politicians as urgent, necessary and with no harmful consequences. Could they answer a single point made here?

It is funny that as Baroness Fox patiently set out a case for the dangers of poorly-socialised young people in Western society, the BBC had an oversized child sat by her to roll its eyes, sigh and interrupt every few seconds.
My attempt at discussing what has driven violent riots & wanton destruction in France (not without interruption). I was also reacting to unhelpfully labelling Kemi Badenoch's mention of challenges of migration y'day, as a Trump-like dog whistle #PoliticsLive

Part 2 of a rather fractious exchange on #PoliticsLive. Difficult discussions too often turn toxic once the challenges of mass immigration/integration are raised as problems, even though I was arguing this is only one aspect of the riots in France.

Are the traditional labels of left and right becoming increasingly irrelevant? I spoke to @Fox_Claire at the Battle of Ideas Festival about free speech, the growing reluctance to debate opposing views and why we need to start listening to each other again.

The all-male, army aged, foreign rioters in France decide not to loot a store after discovering the owner is Muslim. But sure, this is a “student protest.” 🙄
“Don’t smash it up, she’s a sister!” This shop manager protecting her business is spared by the thugs out of Muslim solidarity. Still absolutely no connection to immigration.

The Calgary Opera has replaced Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega in its production of "Tosca" after he held up a Palestinian flag during the curtain call. The opera takes place in Rome in the year 1800, when Jews were forced to live in Rome's ghetto and legally could not own property. It's one thing to stage operas that erase Europe's horrific history of antisemitism. It's another to use it for a contextless moment of "activism" for Palestine, with no mention of the destruction Hamas has caused to Israelis and Palestinians alike. The theater made the right call.

I've seen them live twice, both times by accident (1980s gay clubs!). Both times different singers. I didn't mind the song though when it came out, but I was 12.
"Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" is the biggest hit of the Spanish duo Baccara (formed by Mayte Mateos and María Mendiola). They worked as singers and dancers in a hotel in the Canary Islands when German producer Rolf Soja heard them and composed the music especially for them in 1977. Released as the first single of their career, the track reached #1 in the United Kingdom (being the first Spanish artists to achieve this), #1 in several other countries of the continent and sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. With its danceable groove, addictive chorus and glamorous look, the song became one of the biggest Eurodisco hits of the 70s.
