My first published article is out now in @ExplorationsRC - and it’s open access! If you’re into satire, Nashe, Dekker, or warfare metaphors, go check it out - brill.com/view/journals/erc/… #earlymodern
Outing myself as an unrepentant #Bridgerton fan here but new substack reflecting on some of the ~discourse~ about Sophie and Benedict, Regency-era inter-class romances, the literary 'lost heir' trope, and how it's all tied to how we relate money to virtue

I feel like Sophie and therefore the overall love story is undermined by the fact that deep down she is the daughter of a nobleman who was raised to be noble. Like that’s her ticket into the entry of society instead of forcing them to accept her even without the lineage which undermines the whole she’s a maid thing.
On #Hamnet, “grief porn” and manipulation, and the art-nature debate

Finishing the year on a high - I've signed a contract with Cambridge University Press for my book: Metal and Literary Production in Early Modern England: Labour, Value, Violence
Transforming my PhD into a book while teaching wasn't easy, so I WILL be celebrating every milestone!
the teaser trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has garnered the predictable uproar, but here’s my take, full of gothic erotica and pulp film history, on why this adaptation could be spot on

Cat-sitting at my mum’s for the weekend means a healthy balance of fenland walks and jogs, book editing, and kitten time (the last two often combined)

Thrilled to see this out in @IsisJournal! It tells the (timely) story of the #knowledge hierarchies embedded in #mineral exploration by examining the interplay between #books, #experts, and untrained #officials in #Renaissance #Tuscany.
