"I think social media should be basically common infrastructure that society gets to use and evolve it as society evolves, building a more democratic form of social media to reflect a democratic society."

Over a hundred young star clusters near to the Sun can be traced back to just *three* distinct star-forming regions. This is a *huge* result for studying our own galaxy!
The work is out today in Nature, led by Cameren Swiggum in Vienna: arxiv.org/abs/2406.06510
Link to a very cool interactive version of that first figure, which lets you trace the cluster's orbits back in time: cswigg.github.io/cam_websiteβ¦

On X, scientists are sidelined, attacked, and trolled.
Meanwhile on B l u e s k y, theyβre asking scientists how to make the platform better for them β¬οΈ

Just confirmed!
Everyone you have ever blocked is now able to see your posts!
They just can't interact with them.
This is gonna make a bunch of toxic stalkers happy.
What a complete douchebag!

This week I added a second zoomed in 1 kpc 3D map using @emilydoesastro's very latest cluster catalog and the ability to display labels on a corresponding top down 2D map (as adding readable labels directly on a 3D map is difficult). (2/3)

Exactly.
Any organization that puts βTrustβ in their name cannot trusted, as that is obviously a euphemism for censorship.
We are changing the name of our Trust & Safety group, to simply @Safety. Trust is something that must be earned.
The goal of our Safety team is simply to ensure compliance with the laws that already exist to protect the people.
Our galaxy's young star clusters now have accurately measured masses, radii, and classifications!
My new paper out today uses a new method to distinguish between bound and unbound clusters, improving the usability of the cluster census and setting new observational constraints.
The paper has been accepted in A&A, but you can read it now on the arXiv!
There's a link to download the data in the comments of the arXiv posting.
