This all comes down to working with the current team who owns the vs code extension and LSP, of which I'm not a part of anymore😢

github.com/puppetlabs/puppet… is a thorny one. There is overlapping concepts of workspaces: VS Code multi-root workspace, control repos, multiple modules, etc. Supporting per directory would require the LSP to (IIRC) load puppet-lint for each, which is as difficult as the previous

Glenn is spot on with github.com/puppetlabs/puppet…. The decision to vendor puppet-lint was the best option at the time, since it's a core functionality. It's a non-trivial to change the LSP now to accept different sources, and would require a lot of effort to change

👋It's been a long while since I worked in this code base, so I took some time to review

Jumping straight to the fun level I see 😂

You’ll have to ad it to the dependencies section in package.json and include node_modules in the vsix if you want dependencies shipped. Check the .vscodeignore to make sure it’s not in there or else it’s ignored at package time

My bad, I missed you were using git references for that. I’ll add that to the list

I think that one should work, at least I thought we demo'd that in the live stream

+1 on the not copying. For the 'grok' part, we do have 'go to definition' for some of the things you list. What kind of visualization would you be thinking of for examining existing code? Hover over a reference and have it say 'defined in /foo/bar.tfvars'? A graph with nodes?

Not VS Code specific, but towards your project vis: github.com/im2nguyen/rover. We've been discussing how to do things like this inside the editor when we get to that stage.

If you have some time, we recently did a live stream about what we've delivered over the last few months. Hopefully some of it is useful to you youtu.be/hYBWFg8C1ZY

We've done alot recently on providing intellisense, etc without having terraform init run, so there is more support for varied project directory structures. Still some work there to land, but it's already much better
