We placed these signs in the exact places where women and girls were harmed—because no one else did.
📍Public safety is failing survivors.
It’s time to confront that truth—and build something better.

“We became experts in something that children should never, ever have to deal with.” They learned to judge when an argument was becoming dangerous. That was their signal to intervene. “All we could do really was we would just try and put our bodies between my father and my mother.”
Patrick Stewart grew up listening for the moment a family argument would turn violent. Then he and his brother would step between their father and their mother. His father returned from the Second World War in 1945, when Stewart was five. He had been a regimental sergeant major in the Parachute Regiment. Until his return, Stewart remembers his childhood as idyllic. At home, things gradually became more difficult. Speaking on Loose Women, the actor known as Professor X recalled sitting upstairs with his brother, listening. “We became experts in something that children should never, ever have to deal with.” They learned to judge when an argument was becoming dangerous. That was their signal to intervene. “All we could do really was we would just try and put our bodies between my father and my mother.” Decades later, Stewart discovered that wartime reports had described his father as suffering from “severe shell shock.” He says his father was never treated for it, the condition he now understood as post-traumatic stress disorder. “He was never given any help.” The discovery helped Stewart understand his father. But it did not erase what his mother had endured. “That does not justify what he did. Not remotely.”

It’s a great set-up really. Deny epidemic of violence against women & children & cite lack of reporting & convictions. Make any who do attempt to hold perpetrator responsible regret doing so & be a public example of why it’s pointless. Loop back to beginning.

These posts from law enforcement are troubling. I have had no contact with Burnaby RCMP. I live in Vancouver. Perhaps Burnaby responds better to domestic and intimate partner violence, but on the whole, police fail women. These social media cards do nothing. When we report violence, nothing is ever done. Start there, act.
There are many different forms of intimate partner violence. One of them is coercive control. October is Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month, and our Victims Services Unit is sharing information to raise awareness: everyone deserves to feel safe. 💜

How can the public have any trust in policing when criminal cops get treated much better than members of the public when a criminal charge is laid? Changes what the badge represents.
Here is a deep dive into the recently made public court record for Elias Mouawad, the latest #TorontoPolice officer to plead guilty as part of the Project South investigation. Summary... Toronto Police Constable Elias Mouawad was given a conditional discharge by Superior Court Justice Catherine Rhinelander on October 20th, 2026, for using an unlawful CPIC search on behalf of Daljit Sandhu and Brian Da Costa of the Ryan Wedding criminal network. At sentencing, the Crown sought a four-month conditional sentence (to be served in the community) followed by twelve months of probation. Counsel for Elias Mouawad sought a conditional discharge. Daljit Sandhu, who requested that Mr. Mouawad do the unauthorized CPIC check, was paid $114,813.19 in 2025 as an intermediate Technical Analyst for the Toronto Police Service and is one of the 27 people arrested in the Project South investigation. Mr. Sandhu also got Mr. Mouawad hired with the Toronto Police by acting as his reference. In his request to Mr. Douwad, Mr. Singh also mentioned that he knew other police officers who did similar favours for him. Briand Da Costa is facing 16 criminal charges in relation to the Project South investigation. He is accused of obtaining the confidential information which led to the murder attempt of senior correctional officer Milosevic of the Toronto South Detention Centre. The male who was looked up in the CPIC check by Mr. Douwad is known to the #RCMP as someone involved in the import/export of controlled substances via Pearson International Airport. The Sentencing... Justice Rhinelander gave Elias Mouawad a conditional discharge. As well as... - 1 year probation with 100 hours of community service, and Elias is required to participate in any counselling programs as directed by his probation officer. It appears the guilty plea submitted by Elias Mouawad was done to avoid further investigation and publicity into his criminal misconduct. A fact that Justice Rhinelander refused to acknowledge in her sentencing. To quote Superior Justice Catherine Rhinelander... "A just sentence meets the goals of deterrence, denunciation, retribution, rehabilitation, and protection of society." In no way does this sentence meet that criteria; it sends a message to everyone involved in organized crime that their crimes won't be punished. A conditional discharge doesn't even appear permanently on your criminal record; it's deleted after three years of a conviction. To quote Justice Rhinelander again... "A discharge may only be granted if it is in the best interests of the accused and not contrary to the public interest. Conditional discharges should be used sparingly and in exceptional circumstances" This discharge is not in the public's best interest. This case needs to be an example that collusion with organized crime by law enforcement will not be tolerated; it's far more than just an unauthorized CPIC check. This fact wasn't even considered by Justice Rhinelander in her sentencing. Here is the link to the court file for your reference canlii.org/en/on/onsc/doc/20…
