Integrated courts. The difference between safety and ongoing harm.
In this article, Pat Shannon, our Staff Lawyer, explains how survivors of domestic abuse face the risk of retraumatization and even conflicting judgments due to the lack of an integrated court system in BC. thestar.com/vancouver/2019/0… via @torontostar

Presentation is important. I’ll give my son a little more grace now on school mornings.

✌️I'm a firm believer that men need to step up and educate other men in our society
Why is the burden of shame placed on the victim rather than the perpetrator?
It’s time to dismantle the culture of victim-blaming and shift accountability where it entirely belongs: with those who commit violence. We need to hold offenders responsible and creating spaces where survivors are met with belief, support, and complete freedom to heal ⚖️

I think this is a pretty disgusting miscarriage of justice. I feel for the Zauggs, and I’m sure their heart has broken over their son committing such a heinous crime. That doesn’t excuse his crime though. Krew Zaugg, a 22 year old returned missionary committed a violent sexual assault against a 15 year old girl. It’s not just to be sentenced only to a rider that will have him imprisoned less than a year.
He’s traumatized this girl for years to come, while he has a trip to Hawaii on bail - to get married - all the while this girl is in counseling for her rape. She will have repercussions for the rest of her life. This sentence is too lenient.

An RCMP major crimes officer in British Columbia has been charged with offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material. fraservalleytoday.ca/2026/10…
These posts from law enforcement are troubling. I have had no contact with Burnaby RCMP. I live in Vancouver. Perhaps Burnaby responds better to domestic and intimate partner violence, but on the whole, police fail women.
These social media cards do nothing. When we report violence, nothing is ever done. Start there, act.

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” — Desmond Tutu
This quote rings true when someone says they “don’t want to take sides” when you speak about the abuse that you've been subjected to.
Silence is a side.
Neutrality protects the abuser.
Those who look away, minimise, or quietly support the one causing harm become part of the system that enables it.

“ A judge told a 14-year-old boy who stabbed a girl 10 times that prison was the “last place” for a “bright lad” like him.” He attacked her after she “spurned his advances”. So he can’t take “no”for an answer. But he’s clever so never mind, it’s okay. 🤦🏾♀️😖telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…
BCNDP election disaster. They lost their way and failed many long before the snap election.
...they’d better bring in some outside help to do a dispassionate post-mortem. Because everyone involved in that government and that campaign had a role in allowing the leader to push forward with one of the most reckless decisions in the history of British Columbia politics. They blew up their government together. And they squandered so much opportunity.
The @bcndp left 2 years of majority gov on the table, in part because of a caucus, cabinet and party that refused to stand up to a sinking leader and start the process of finding a new one. Instead, he drove the party off a cliff.
