Engineer since I was knee high. Invented motorised plank of wood aged 8 with spare RC motors, a whole lot of D cells, WD40 and duct tape. Often found randomly bringing stuff together to make inanimate objects move. Occasionally also do the same with people, reluctantly.
Some people seem to disagree. And I'm fine with discussing the finer points of employment economics, but minimum wages and NI rises are easy pickings for politicians and done with little care for the reality for a business. Govt greed is not ok.
I just want a govt who doesn't feed idleness. I want young people to have every opportunity to find their place in the world but to know it always comes with sacrifice. I don't want to be sacrificing my time just to make ends meet in an ungrateful nation who spites success.
This all started and enabled by the Tories btw
π¨ NEW: Ofcom says all adults should have to use their ID to access social media.
β’ Ofcom has recommended four methods for verifying usersβ ages ahead of the UKβs ban on social media for under-16s, which is due to come into force in March next year.
β’ The four methods suggested, subject to government approval, are photo ID matching, banking-based checks, live facial age estimation and digital ID.
β’ The regulator noted that verifying the ages of 16 and 17-year-olds is challenging because many do not have credit cards, full driving licences or passports.
β’ Ofcom chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes said the ban can work if firms carry out highly effective age checks, and that the regulator will take action against companies that fail to comply.
They know its just tip of their economically destructive iceberg. They're heading off the inevitable blame before they announce an election.
I just can't rationalise the current political fervour for an intervention in Poundland, which has gone into administration, with the underlying economics and model of the business itself.
It's just a bloody distributor, it produces nothing, there's no strategic importance. There's literally another business called Poundstretcher doing the same thing. And myriad low cost supermarkets.
Any taxpayer funding would just be a straight up subsidy to maintain jobs that are only being lost because the Labour government made employing people prohibitively expensive.
Put simply, a bailout would be economic illiteracy.
And yet MPs will jump up and down on the bandwagon and demand it because they have local constituents affected.

Not to sound all libertarian but the healthy mindset is aspiring to earn that much instead of punitively cranking up the taxes on people that do

βPeople over profitβ is a particularly ignorant slogan when you consider that profit is what makes satisfying people's needs economically sustainable.
Profit rewards the creation of value, encourages production, and provides the means to expand supply.
Without profitability, production eventually becomes unsustainable.
Putting people over profit makes about as much sense as putting human survival over food production.

Socialism destroys everything that makes a society function: free trade, property rights, personal responsibility, individual agency, aspiration, enterprise, family.
It replaces it with lofty rhetoric, empty promises, repression, stagnation and violence.
Labour is 100% responsible for the Poundland problem. And make no mistake, its not just affecting them, its affecting every single retailer running fine margins and ultimately it hurts you, the buyer as your costs rise. Min wages have also destroyed youth opportunities.

Making the national grid weather dependent was the most retarded thing Britain has ever done.
Europe is facing its first prolonged period of cool, cloudy and windless weather this heating season, squeezing renewable generation at a time when power prices are already at the highest levels since 2022. bloomberg.com/news/articles/β¦

WTF? A Prime Minister who has never run a business in his life demands answers because a private business fails? β¦ let me help you, Andy & co.
A retail chain needs to stay in fashion, needs to go with the flow! β¦ But you and successive governments donβt like their βtatβ products (mostly sourced off shore to sell them at Β£1!!! That the whole point right?) anywayβ¦
for free (without a taxpayer funded Β£MULTIMILLION enquiry Iβll tell you the problemsβ¦ (youβre welcome)
βͺοΈmassively increased regulations and compliance costs.
βͺοΈcheap tat sourced from abroad, with rising shipping and transport costs.
βͺοΈHit by increased minimum wages and employer National Insurance.
βͺοΈHit by rising rents and business rates.
βͺοΈHit by soaring energy bills and net zero costs.
βͺοΈHit by higher interest rates.
βͺοΈHit by consumers with less disposable income.
βͺοΈHit by the soaring cost of borrowing to buy stock months in advance.
βͺοΈHit by higher insurance premiums.
βͺοΈHit by shoplifting, organised theft and security costs.
βͺοΈHit by packaging taxes, recycling regulations and environmental compliance costs.( which you just throw into general taxation, non of it changes the weather)
βͺοΈHit by higher fuel, warehousing and distribution costs.
βͺοΈHit by increased employment costs, pensions and statutory obligations.
βͺοΈHit by competition from overseas online retailers operating with very different overheads.( duty free β¦ for foreign businesses oops)
βͺοΈAnd hit by the impossibility of passing those costs onto customers, who shop at Poundland precisely because they need cheap stuff! β¦ which isnβt cheap anymore (see above)
Every single time you add something on β¦ so do they!
And the idiot, deluded politicians who have made Britain more and more expensive and difficult to do business in, are demanding to know why businesses are struggling?
You are all moronic. My work here is done π€‘

Are you a landlord? π
From 15 December, if youβre a landlord of an assured or regulated tenancy in England, you must register yourself and each of your properties through the new service on GOV.UK by the deadline for your region. Letting agents canβt register on your behalf.
Youβll need to give details of your properties, like:
β’ the address π
β’ the number of tenants and bedrooms ποΈ
β’ the amount of rent you're receiving for a property π·
β’ gas and electricity safety certificates β‘
You may be asked to provide energy performance certificates (EPCs) if your details can't be found on the EPC register.

Itβs quite simple. The government drove Poundland out of business by making Β£1 so worthless nothing worthwhile could be bought for it.
Engineering Dad π§ππ―πͺ retweeted
Nothing highlights the fiscal failure of this government more starkly than the plight of Poundland. The chain's 600 stores and 12,000 workers sit on the verge of collapse, not because its customers have walked away - Poundland's sales grew by 6.7% in September - but because of this government's unaffordable tax rises, which makes it impossible to run a business that works on slim profit margins to keep its prices down for its customers. How ironic that a government preaching about helping the least well-off is forcing a company out of business that does just that.
