Britannia begins with a very old idea: translatio imperii โ the transfer of empire. Not the transfer of territory, but of civilisation: institutions, law, symbols, duties and political memory carried forward when the old centre can no longer contain the whole inheritance.
Cowards.
Norway turned its North Sea oil into national wealth. Britain squandered its opportunity and now wants to shut the door on further exploration.
Where is our long-term strategy? Our sovereign wealth fund? Our industrial ambition?
Westminster has forgotten how to think like a nation.

My fiancรฉe calls me every morning.
Some mornings I even get the privilege of waking up to her waking me up on VRChat with kisses, filling me with joy.
When @CultistZolon and I first started long distance dating we texted eachother "Good morning" every day. He also would ask me at the end of every day how my day went and ask genuine questions about it.

Genderbend me and you get Charles Dance's iteration of Lord Mountbatten.
Britain is like the Ferrari of Empires.
You can absolutely despise Britain, condemn its imperial history, mock its politics, and spend half your life complaining about the bloody country.
But the SECOND the Union Jack appears over a fleet of warships, accompanied by some ridiculously dramatic orchestral music, suddenly everyone remembers why they liked Britain in the first place.
It's not even necessarily about agreeing with Britain.
It's the sheer cultural and historical weight of the bloody thing.
Ferrari has the Prancing Horse. Britain has the Union Jack.
Both have an extraordinary talent for turning disasters into mythology, both have spent decades being accused of living off their former glory, and both somehow retain an army of people who will defend them to the death.
You like Britain, even when you don't like Britain.
