If you need to fix a performance in post, try:
- Adding space between lines
- Tightening unnecessary pauses
- Swapping dialogue for visual cues
- Using L cuts to cutaway to reactions
- Stealing silent looks from other takes
More often than not, one of these will do the trick.

On January 6, I got ready to defend my colleagues and texted my wife: “Whatever happens, I love you.”
Ted Cruz was hiding in a supply closet. If you summon a mob to overturn a free and fair election, you should lose your job. This election is his accountability.

A perfect formula for failure as a filmmaker:
- Wait for the perfect time to make your film
- Assume your ideas are always best
- Don't care about the audience
- Rush through pre-production
- Take rejection personally
- Be anti-collaborative
What did I miss?

Make the thing you can afford.
Produce wisely. Shoot small.
Make it perfect. Finish strong.
Submit it.
Plan a release, make a spreadsheet.
Share it on every platform.
People notice.
Repeat.

Think as big as you can when developing your film.
But be willing to go as small as you need to get it made.

It’s virtually impossible to make a film if you are overly pessimistic.

You struggle to come up with new ideas because you're stuck in survival mode. You're trapped in the same old boring routine and your mind can't access thoughts or ideas outside of it.
Let go. Take some rest. Embrace chaos for a bit.
The ideas will come.

Screenwriting structure is fractal.
• The structure of moments forms a scene.
• The structure of scenes forms a sequence.
• The structure of sequences forms an act.
• The structure of acts forms the story.
Each one is its own. Never fill one just to get to the next.

Day 4 of #Spectember is upon us.
Hopefully you're being productive, but give yourself grace as well. Life happens - not every day (or week) will be what you planned.
Accept it - don't beat yourself up - and start again.
Believe in that Spectember Magic!

I’m not saying going for a walk will solve all your problems, I’m just saying there’s almost no problem that’s going to be made worse by going for a walk.

We are glad we were able to memorably portray the location in our film, and privileged to set the story at this iconic town.

Many of the stories and key moments are drawn from this race, and it’s sad to see the end of an era as Ironman Canada will be in Penticton for the last time in August of 2024.

Our movie, 13 Miles, was largely based on filmmaker Anthony Epp’s experiences as an IRONMAN Canada triathlon participant in Penticton.

Screenwriting is the smallest, shortest, and most overly-glorified part of writing a movie. Ideation, research, development, trial & error, day jobs, workshopping it with friends and bartenders, heavy drinking, long looks in the mirror, constant feelings of inadequacy, confirmations of inadequacy, quitting screenwriting forever, telling everybody you’re quitting movies forever, deleting your script, researching how to recover scripts after they’ve been deleted from a laptop, these things can take years to master.
