I work on energy transition issues in Texas. I'm an urbanist and a proponent of mass political movements. Too many ideas, not enough time.

Cheap power brings new industries. Higher demand leads to higher prices which leads to more solar + storage and cheaper power again. I featured the @TexasTribune's TribCast with @Ericwg on how Texas' growing power demand and supply in my R&P Picks; link in reply. #txenergy

We took an new industrial site in CA off-grid with solar, batteries, and gas. Everyone said it wouldn't work. After over a year of operations: ✅ faster and cheaper than grid interconnection ✅ positive savings (net of PPA and fuel) ✅ majority clean power ✅ 99%+ uptime

“And then you get MOPR, ELCC, and all that fuckery” what a perfect podcast.
This week we hung out with Nic Freschi, a PJM wizard who sounded the alarm about shortage in the PJM capacity market for nearly a year before it recently rocketed up by an order of magnitude.

In addition to all the world chaos happening... My mother is sitting in a nice hotel room in New Delhi where it hit 122° f yesterday, describing birds literally falling off trees from heat stroke. She is indoors for obvious reasons, but she also caught bronchitis again, the second she got off the plane. I think it was @drvolts who did this podcast once, but when we think about climate solutions investment, we have to remember that the value of $1 abroad in developing countries is far higher than sinking that marginal $ into the United States. In somewhat related news, there is a haze in #Houston that is due to crop burning in #Mexico. If I could have one thing in life, it would truly be, to galvanize talented students all over the world into career paths that will arrest drastic impacts of climate change in the next 3 years, all over the world, and particularly in developing countries.

Good morning with good news: Total global solar installation reached 1.6 TW in 2023. More solar was installed in 2023 than had been installed up to 2017! 2023 deployment was up ~80%. Eighteen nations passed 10% solar level, including Japan & Germany! iea-pvps.org/wp-content/uplo…
