A 21-year-old #Brampton man is raising money for cancer treatment in the US after his stage 4 colon cancer stopped responding to chemo.
Taye Hastings was diagnosed in June at 20, with the cancer already spread to his liver, stomach, kidneys and lungs. After surgery and six rounds of chemotherapy, he says doctors told him it’s become resistant. He’s now hoping to raise $550,000 for personalized treatment at a clinic in Arizona.
“I’m not ready to give up on this fight,” he told NOW Toronto.
Colorectal cancer rates are rising in Canadians under 50. In July, Ontario lowered its recommended screening age from 50 to 45.

A court found the government acted unlawfully after denying Alex Shved, a cancer patient, potentially life-saving treatment.

Liberal MPP Tyler Watt said that he is very proud of the students for calling out the government and the colleges and universities minister.
“His response has been pathetic. He’s not being honest about this,” said Watt. “He won’t even acknowledge the fact that he let this go on for years before taking action.”
Watt said the government is trying to shift the focus to the action they are taking against fraud now, rather than what went on since the police warning in 2023.
