Indeed he was. He made clear after the 2025 publication of “Marce Catlett: The Force of a Story” this was his last book. The past winter was hard. As with the old farmer in Old Jack, he passed at 92. We’ve carried him in our hearts & actions for years, and that won’t change🤎

Once upon a time I was struggling & Uncle Wendell, with a firm grip on my shoulder said, “Times are too dire to be anything but hopeful.” Unforgettable, especially that evening at Tanya Berry’s table red-cheeked and laughing, having imbibed just the right amount of bourbon 🕊️

awww, damn I’m so sorry. I had to go toe to toe with my insurance company, but ultimately won and were paid fully. I learned a lot. Everything may be fine, but if I can be of any help, just let me know.

Damn, Nate, haven’t been on here for a long time. Did you have a housefire? if so, I’m so sorry. I had one, actually my first house we lost everything but got out unharmed. Hope you’re doing alright?

Just don’t build your well downhill from your privy! True story from my days as a hydrogeologist. Family called me out claiming that their new well was making them sick, but the culprit was their 💩- privy uphill of the well 🤨

Ky legislature moving to be only state in nation remove groundwater protections - groundwater protections I helped develop in the 1990's in my first job as a brand new Hydrogeologist for Ky Division of Water. lpm.org/investigate/2025-03-…

12 years into launching acceleratingappalachia.org/b… the A TEAM emerges! Brilliant, collaborative, organized, proactive and..FUN! Ok, so our recent $20M award to fund farmers to adopt regenerative ag likely helped 😅 Farmer applications open #persist #regenerativeag

Get in touch with these folks - they do alot of this type of restoration. Their first project, thanks to my dad, was the Midway elementary school, which is now apartments and Ouita has her bakery there. auassociates.com/

One thing that's been reaffirmed to me during this #Helene disaster in #NorthCarolina: We have a lot of crises in the U.S., but few are as significant as the information crisis. People are lying to us to make us hate each other, to get our money, to boost some cause or another.

A gift from my gifted daughter! 💚 Her process is experimental, using a compression process forming the porcelain clay designs (not painted) #ameliaruthbaxter

72. Would been ⬆️ but we didn’t have a TV. The truck driving/Teamster membership, greyhound bus riding, hitchhiking, waitressing, maid gigs boosted mine but the Q’s failed to account for Southern physicists x2 activist leftie rednecks such as my parents 🤪

Goodbye beloved Uncle Hugh - you were a peace warrior for the ages. Quit the ministry to walk a truly brave path in war-torn countries rebuilding what our country destroyed. A true servant of the people, a true Quaker. Grieving your exit my dear one & only uncle, I 🤍 you 🕊️💔☮️

Here in the south it pairs well with “might could”. “Reckon I might could” = yes if the price is right (for a stranger). For a friend = yes, but it might take awhile. For family = be right over.
