If you have a gun to protect your family, you are, as a matter of cold hard statistics, endangering your family and everyone you know.

(From ⁦@ZyahnaB⁩) A Black woman was killed yesterday in Albemarle County. She worked at the Haven and was a fierce advocate for unhoused community members in Cville and Alb. She leaves behind 5 children. Please share and donate. gofundme.com/f/burial-and-me…

Tesla's self-driving capability is something like 10 times more deadly than a regular car piloted by a human, per an analysis of a new government report. @ryanlcooper has it: prospect.org/justice/06-13-2…

Mayor of Paris is leading the most ambitious effort worldwide to wean people off cars. She is redesigning transport, housing, jobs + public space so residents have the choice of living without long, polluting commutes. Cycling is now key to mobility. This is what leaders do.

My dad tried an e-bike for the first time yesterday. He loved it. “This would be great for canvassing!” 🚲 E-bikes are useful for all ages, and they are a great option for our hilly town, w/ safer streets. Hopefully VA can follow CO’s lead to make them more affordable for all.

Pale Blue Dot is a photo of Earth that was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990 from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles) as it was leaving our solar system. This is what Carl Sagan said about the photo: "Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

Lots of talk lately about rising rates of loneliness.  One potential solution: Building walkable communities. "Neighborhood walkability was positively associated with social interaction with neighbors." doi.org/10.1016/j.healthplac…

Urban surface parking is the definition of a parasite: It kills its host.
The top image is from a 1919 map of downtown Atlanta and the bottom is a photo of the same area from 2014. Only one 3-building cluster of this entire multi-block area remains today. Most of the productive architecture has been replaced by wealth-sucking parking lots.

Caitlyne, now 11, still visits the graves of her friends in Uvalde every week. The "free" therapy she received after the shooting? Twice a month, for 15 minutes. So now, to get her help, her parents rent a car, pay for gas and drive 3 hours once a week. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/…
