one thing i noticed after a month of calls with designers is a weird generation gap between people who are scared of ai and people who are excited about it you would expect younger designers to be more into ai, but it’s often the opposite. the most excited people i meet have been in design for 12+ years designers with about 5 years of experience came into a world that was stable: big design teams, enterprise jobs, high salaries, and a slow process of design systems and jira tasks. ai is a huge risk if you define design work around components. it’s pure production, it needs to be automated, and it was an anomaly from the start people who started 12+ years ago saw a design world without any of that. small freelance gigs, low pay, and no way to do 3d or animation on your own. but they had a lot of ideas, and that’s why they came. they worked in photoshop cs3 and indesign and downloaded brushes from the internet now design is going back to what it should be. not a huge layer of production, but meaning, purpose and form

trying a light editor on duo. i like the idea of using that second screen for different editors, instead of just a keyboard first project by our designer @alx_mindset (!)

it feels like fake warmth and faceless corporate friendliness. i don't want to be that boring guy, but i don’t get the love. to me, this looks like a branding crisis in the ai industry i get grok’s little agent experiment seems to have worked. now open ai wants to blend in and take a piece of the same market as a designer, i get why products built for everyone tend to play it safe. but not to the point where a new feature looks like what we’ve already seen from grok and so many other ai products this belongs in a branding textbook. under “what not to do”
one of my favorite little features we shipped in dots: with the app open, just raise your phone to your ear to call your dot (you'll need to toggle this on in settings, voice)

i asked my agent to blink the keyboard lights when the research was done, without interrupting my work keyboard lights can be a design material too

little hover details, every agent reacts:
i spent 4 weeks on my vision for working with ai agents i don't like how it works today: you jump between chats, babysit their questions, and they take over your screen our v0.1: - just say what you need, it handles the rest - agents use apps in the background - one tiny icon shows progress and questions - generated stuff appears beside it i think this pattern matters, and nobody has nailed it yet. i'll post more soon

iphone duo could open up a whole new way to work with ai we need interfaces that grow with the task: chat, memory, products, a 3d scene, whatever you need along the way here’s my vision for how these blocks take shape and work together

design idea for a water tracking app. the fill level is a real fluid sim reacting to your gyroscope built with a webgl fragment shader, damped pendulum physics, refraction and chromatic aberration i can share the file if anyone wants to play with it

Merciv is hiring a brand designer. It’s a role that is, naturally, extremely important and exciting to me. We’re looking for someone who brings a strategic, systems-driven mindset where it matters, plus a proven ability to execute beyond expectations. You should feel comfortable translating complex, technical subjects into clear, compelling, and distinct visual applications. You deeply understand the fundamentals, but are comfortable exploring new methods and approaches. Most of all, you’re intrinsically motivated to do great work. If that sounds like you, send me a DM or comment below.

the video for everyone trying to automate design without losing quality and authorship my method for building big sites with ai while keeping the design concept mine. real examples, specific advice, what worked and what didn't spent a lot of time on this, running experiments with claude and feeding it different data until the results got decent. felt important to share
