If you grew up in New Jersey, October 30th wasn’t just the night before Halloween - it was Mischief Night.
By the 1920s-40s, the tradition of pranks was established across the Northeast, with NJ becoming especially known for it. TP, eggs, shaving cream, smashed pumpkins and doorbell ditching were all part of the fun.
But it sometimes went too far. On October 30, 1991, Camden saw about 150 fires, with dozens of buildings damaged and 57 people charged.
Unlike most of the country, NJ still calls it Mischief Night - a uniquely Jersey Halloween tradition. – at New Jersey, USA
