Watching our beloved furry ones enjoying their meals, with their tiny faces, innocent eyes, and little bodies gathered around their bowls, fills our hearts with warmth. We love seeing them so happy over something as simple as a meal, but it also breaks our hearts to know how much these little lives depend on us. We feel the same worry for our families, who are also struggling to get by. All we want is to keep our animals fed and make sure our families have what they need, but that's becoming harder with each passing day. ❤️🐾
Lately, we've been feeling this pressure more than ever. Food and basic necessities have become increasingly expensive and harder to find, while the cold, rainy weather means our animals and families need even more to stay warm, dry, and cared for. Among broken stones and the ruins of their destroyed world, these little cats bend their heads over a bowl of food. They eat without knowing how close we are to running out. They don’t know that the hands feeding them are desperate, that our supplies are disappearing, or that tomorrow’s meal is no longer guaranteed. They simply trust us to come back. 😿💔
War took our home, destroyed AFS Shelter, and shattered the life we built to protect abandoned animals. Today, our own families are struggling for food and basic necessities, while our rescued cats depend on us for every bite. We have kept going for as long as we could, but we are reaching a point where love alone cannot fill an empty bowl.

🫂💚I'm Walid and I love animals, especially #cats.🐈 Before this war, I spent years caring for stray cats in Gaza. I built a shelter for them and took sick cats to the vet. But about a year ago, when the bombs fell, my shelter was partly destroyed, and so many of the cats I cared for were killed. It broke my heart.
Now, I’m doing what I can to help the cats who survived this war so far. Some are strays, but as the war continues, more and more are pets who lost their humans, their homes and safety. They roam the streets of North Gaza, hungry and scared, just like so many of us people. I’m also trying to rebuild what’s left of my shelter for the cats who did survive the bombing, but it’s not easy. I need food for the cats in my care and for the ones still out there.
During the ceasefire, my friends and I ran the Cruelty-Free Kitchen. We served warm meals to thousands of families. During the ceasefire my friends and I started helping eight families who are living in tents, with no proper shelter or clean water. We also distribute water in our neighbourhood. Every day is a struggle, but we do what we can to share what little we have.
Life in 💔#Gaza🇵🇸 is unimaginably hard, but I haven’t given up. I believe there are kind-hearted people out there who can help—people who care about animals and people, just like me and my friends. How tragic it is when the joy of rain transforms into pure anxiety, and winter becomes a season of raw misery rather than peace. Last night, the storms entirely flooded displacement tents and violent winds tore them away, while we lay awake unable to distinguish between the roaring thunder and the deafening crash of relentless tank artillery. The drones are blinded by the storm, yet the tanks never stop. ⛈️💔
Through this double hell of cold and fire, our tactical defense remains active. Thanks to the completed support of our beautiful community, the shelter room we rebuilt with its zinc sheet roof has stood firm, completely protecting our 17 innocent cats from the freezing cold and rain. Inside our home, my wife, my son Ayman, and my daughter Julia are safe for now. But transparency forces me to speak: while our 13 bags of flour and core reserves are secure under our strict First-In, First-Out (FIFO) system, the freezing winter adds severe resource strain. 🐾📦

💔 Some innocent souls have nowhere to turn when the rain comes pouring down.
Tonight, the heavy rains in Gaza have brought flooding and devastation. Water entered our home and reached the animals we have struggled so hard to protect. I rushed to give our dogs blankets and a dry shelter, but their safety is still fragile.
And this little cat needs veterinary care. Look at her… she has a visible skin problem, and I desperately want to get her examined and treated, but I cannot afford the vet right now.
I am also struggling with our food debt and the basic needs of these innocent animals. Not a single donation has arrived today.
