We're releasing garnix modules today! At first blush, this looks a lot like the type of PaaS you are already familiar with: Heroku, Render, or Fly. You pick a repo, give us a couple of details about it, and we build, test and deploy it. 1/n

Been working on this for the past few months, and it's honestly something I wish existed for a long time: painlessly deploy a nixosConfiguration somewhere.

Somebody please tell me there's a better way to ensure a goroutine is only started once than having a global bool. Context: it's a plugin. The host calls a predefined function and instantiates my plugin multiple times. I want to have a goroutine that only runs once.

I was just gonna ask how are things going on twitter, and then I had to solve 5 mouse-and-cheese puzzles to change my handle, so I guess I got my answer.

The Extermination has finally come to an end... So many victims have fallen this year, some deserving their fate, others not. But through the aftermath of this slaughter, a long freight train was making its way. At the sight of the firework, the driver came to watch them...

Mastodon has just passed over 2 million active monthly users, a new record! People are voting with their feet. The future of social media doesn't have to belong to a billionaire, it can be in the hands of its users.

My team at Prisma is looking for an EM. I really like this team and the product we're building. DM me if you want to talk about it. boards.greenhouse.io/prisma/…

If you haven't already, this is probably a good time to think of alternative ways of keeping in touch with people and downloading your backups, if you care about these things at all.

This is a good take. I'd like to add that this is partially also just capitalism working as intended. Large companies can't keep growing, and when they don't, they're seen as "in trouble". Their over-inflated value goes down, and the knee-jerk reaction is to reduce costs.
Every single company that's done massive layoffs this month has vacancies open for contractors right now. This isn't "profits are down" (they aren't, except at Twitter because of the new guy) or "costs are up," it's "we no longer want to provide employment."

What do we do? Fire a bunch of people to decrease costs and make profits look bigger, increase company value and try again later. Of course, no regard to people or actually looking at who it actually was who pushed the company in this direction.

And I was hinting at the beginning of this rant, this is not a bug in the system. This is precisely capitalism working as intended. It's not supposed to maximize for anything other than individual wealth of the few (who are already wealthy and the even fewer who get lucky).
