Hi. I don’t know quite how to say this, but the thing that happened in this conversation was so electric and holy, I honestly believe to watch/listen to it is to be altered. It’s an experience you won’t regret, but won’t come back from either. I would go door-to-door to get people to listen to it. No hyperbole, I’ve never had a more important conversation than “Death, disinformation & revival” with Lauren Barnett.
In the wake of the recent loss of her mother (whom I revere), we are invited to consider that the stakes of how we discern/commute/transmit information, may ACTUALLY be life and death. This conversation wanders onto such sacred ground...and yet is somehow, really, really funny!?
She shares from her experience of grief, honoring the legacy of her mother, while calling into question the impact of alt media on mental health and spirituality, the emotional toll of civic engagement, and the role of algorithms in creating division—particularly how they affect our elders. Along the way, we talk about her experience coming up in my youth group (better known now as Steph Curry’s youth group, ha); as well as her crucial work with @expectproject, the challenges facing public education, and the pervasive influence of misinformation and Christian nationalism.
What more could you ask from one conversation? Listen wherever you listen to podcasts or watch on the Zeitcast YouTube channel, let me know what you think (I really want to know!), and if it upends you the way that it did me-please consider sharing this. I can’t help but throw my heart out on this one, because I know that to see & hear these things, is to wake up.
And make sure to follow @expectproject!

As #HispanicHeritageMonth begins, we're grateful for opportunities to help promote, inform, and improve education policy and practice.
In 2020, only 9.3% of the nation’s public school teachers identified as Hispanic or Latino, compared to 28% of students in public schools.
If you're in one of the many communities struggling to attract and retain educators that reflect the diversity of your students, we can help!

We are writing to ask for your help. Children ARE on the 2024 ballot, and their future is at stake. We must do all we can to ensure the public knows all that is at risk for our children on issues such as:
✅ The Child Tax Credit
✅ Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
✅ Vaccinations for children
✅ Children's mental health
✅ Infant and maternal mortality
✅ Gun safety
✅ Public education and the Department of Education
✅ Head Start
✅ Early childhood education
✅ Child care
✅ Protections with respect to child labor
✅ Child hunger
✅ WIC
✅ Child poverty
Kids are often an afterthought in public debates and elections even though they embody all of our future!
We are doing the best we can to educate the public about what is at risk, while simultaneously working to combat disinformation and misinformation that is being spread with respect to children's issues and policies by groups such as Moms for Liberty.
