this website used to be like that
i want a letterboxd but instead of movies is magazine articles. like what if i have a lot of thoughts about the latest Atlantic cover story... what if i reread a 1998 harper’s story and thought it was lit… there’s a great newsletter called Last Week’s New Yorker but it isn’t enough… let a thousand flowers bloom

"The Pope is voting in our elections" does sound like an old-timey Know-Nothing scaremongering slogan
I’ve always loved CZJ and Michael Douglas bc they’re basically the celebrity au of my parents, apparently even down to the trajectory of their relationship

Not finished with reading this just yet, but this is another incredible deep dive into Kansas and the political landscape here. Most outside looking-in perspectives don't really capture the dynamics of the Kansas Republican Party like this.
Timely, given the WaPo: What’s The Matter With Kansas. My first senate deep dive. Subscribe to read -- it is free!

nothing the Swedes love more than making a shadow box with the clothes of some guy that just got merc’d
Obviously, being assassinated was not how Gustav III saw his day panning out, but the fashionista king was at least #frockingfabulous when he made his fateful outing! This is the masquerade outfit Gustav was sporting when he was shot in the back. #gloriousgeorgians
lol oh my god I thought we had moved on from applying this bullshit trope to Kansas
I've had my eye on @Hamilton4Kansas for some time , but I finally went out to Kansas this month to see his campaign up close. How is his faith message is landing? What's different for voters this time?
And are there lessons for national Dems?
There are.
@voxdotcom
Kansans have no real opinion to speak of regarding Hamilton, they’re voting Marshall *out* not Hamilton *in*
.@nytimes polls show that Hamilton is escaping the Democratic Party’s far left brand. Just 32% of Kansans see him as “too far left.” (55% view the Dem Party as too far left)
57% of independents, 37% of undecideds, & 29% of Republicans see Hamilton as not too far left or right
lmfao I was curious if sentiment was amplified by the election and all the recent bad press nationally so I looked at the 2022 survey (Moran’s reelection year) and that year was his highest satisfaction rating (40.9%) since 2019
Replying to @fembotic
If Hamilton wins, it will be because Kansans wanted Marshall, the senator who openly sneers at the state he’s exploiting for money, power, and access, to lose, full stop.
This is the whole explanation of “what’s different this time:” the people really hate Roger Marshall

ALT Screenshot of high-level results from the recently released annual Kansas Speaks public opinion survey, highlighting that roughly equivalent numbers of respondents viewed Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall favorably (28.2% and 26.1%, respectively) but a significantly greater number view Marshall negatively than view Moran negatively (46.9% vs 32%, respectively)
