While maintaining @_hummingbot is our day job, @cardosofede and I wanted to build a fun experiment on the side, so we launched respawn.town and the solana:ESqMjA15hbH5NnHqjXo4S1A4CU4hPuKjkvi2mJ3oEihC token on it today.
We certainly didn't expect this level of attention and traction, so I wanted to write a quick note to explain how it works. I'll post a longer article later.
1. Respawn is a new Solana-based multiplayer game that lets you play games, trade memes, and launch team tokens. It's like a mashup of Roblox and pump.fun.
2. Making Respawn fun is our top priority. Try out the first few minigames: race on Sunset Circuit, finish the Sea Dash obstacle course, and ride the bull!
3. You can also create team tokens like solana:ESqMjA15hbH5NnHqjXo4S1A4CU4hPuKjkvi2mJ3oEihC. Team tokens start on the @MeteoraAG DBC bonding curve and graduates into a DAMMv2 pool with permanently locked liquidity when it reaches 47 SOL. Team creators earn a share of the creator fees on the bonding curve.
4. After graduation, the team is listed, and players can join your team by burning 0.01 SOL worth of the team token. When players play and win games vs players from other teams, they earn points for themselves and their teams.
5. We'll be building out team-based features soon. Some ideas are dedicated islands for teams, exclusive wearables, and private team chats. Similarly, the points that you earn by playing and winning games on Respawn are currently just experience points for now, but if the platform gets traction, we hope that they will be convertible into ownership of the Respawn platform itself.

While AI is indispensible in my job and I'm amazed at how the technology leaps forward daily, I also feel like it will lead to greater mistrust between humans.
A simple example: the Hummingbot org has been getting a lot more inbound requests lately - new PRs to our open source repos, messages in our Discord server, and partnership asks to our inbox. Most of these are probably AI bots. Some fraction are likely real humans, but it's hard to tell the difference and we are inundated. I don't want to waste my time talking to AIs, so my default response is none at all.
In a few years, I'm not sure how strangers can establish some modicum of trust. Perversely, we're heading toward to the polar opposite of the early Internet.
Lots of experience from this when I was a banker based in HK in its heyday:
1. KTVs suck. I still can't stand the combo of Johnny Walker Black and green tea from too many nights going to them in my finance days.
2. It's how business is done with certain client types, just like taking them golfing and getting them tables at clubs with champagne swizzlers, etc.
3. Learn to play the dice game and strike up a real conversation with the girls. Good way to practice your Mandarin and hear some wild stories.
If you’re doing business in Asia, there’s one culture you cannot avoid: KTV.
And no, I’m not talking about regular karaoke. I’m talking about private rooms where you and your clients drink, sing, and pay for girls (or guys) to keep you company.
China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand… different versions of the same thing. And if you can’t play along, you might find yourself left out of some pretty important business meetings. 🤷🏻♀️
If you didn’t grow up here, your first experience can be a real culture shock.
The mamasan walks in with a lineup, asks you to pick, and suddenly you’re sitting there with someone awkwardly, not knowing where to look or what to do.
I got dragged into a few of these KTV nights in Singapore last week, and here’s my little survival hack that has never failed:
Always pick the one who LOVES singing.
Seriously. Find the girl or guy who’s genuinely obsessed with the microphone.
They’ll happily sing all night. Duets with your business partners, solo performances, fighting for the mic… they’ll basically entertain themselves for hours.
Meanwhile, you don’t have to make small talk, flirt, or keep drinking with someone you barely know.
You fit right in, your business partner think you belong, your companion is having the time of their life, and you survive the entire night without a single awkward moment.
Everybody wins. You’re welcome.
