THE LAKERS "IF" REPORT 🏆 | 2026–27
14 IFs. One question: what has to go right for the Lakers to hang with the NBA’s elite and contend?
Luka’s team now. A rebuilt roster. Plenty of guys with something to prove.
I ranked the biggest swing factors and impact—not just the best players. Let’s debate. 🧵👇

"LeBron’s departure was offset by the Kessler and Grimes acquisitions. There’s a case to be made this Lakers roster is better than last year’s. This team is much better suited to cover for Luka's weaknesses while accentuating his strengths," per @liam_mckeone.

If OKC decides they want to get AD, it's over for the league.
The Mavericks will indeed gauge the trade market for Anthony Davis ahead of February’s deadline, per @BannedMacMahon (espn.com/nba/story/_/id/4701…).
Dallas plans to pivot to a rebuild with Cooper Flagg, which includes trading Davis, and hope to gain a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Every IF That Stands Between the Lakers and True Contention - [A Thread]
Every season comes down to “ifs.” For the Lakers, it’s about Luka, LeBron… and most importantly everyone in between.
Here’s what has to go right for each player ranked by impact on accomplishing the IF (not a talent ranking) for LA to contend in 2025-26. 🧵👇#LakeShow
