Cero. Any form of security through obscurity is fully over. This barely worked as a method with humans, but just simply is over in a world of autonomous systems that will look through every crevice and try every permutation of attack possible. As a result, years and years of legacy enterprise infrastructure will need to be upgraded, security practices modernized, data pipelines cleaned up, access controls better managed, and much more. Agents will help on the defensive side because they can both accelerate this work and equally simulate the risk vectors. But there’s a long road ahead to prepare for this future. This is also partially why diffusion timelines will take longer than some realize.
a lot of old software was protected by “exploiting this would be an unreasonable amount of work” we have invented a machine that does unreasonable amounts of work anyway how’s the patch backlog

I suspect the real reason eMudhra is exiting the SSL business is Google indicated it is most likely going to drop eMudhra from being trusted by Chrome AT ALL, after observing inexplicable incompetence in how they mis-generated their private key for the CA certificate.
BREAKING: eMudhra exits SSL/TLS certificate business, blames social media instead of incompetence for the same

If you wanted to know all the jobs that AI will produce, look no further than cybersecurity. This is going to become one of the biggest investment areas for enterprises going forward. And even as the work becomes more agentic and autonomous you will need more talent to point the agents at the most critical work, review findings, patch systems, respond to incidents, and more. Lots of opportunity right now for the systems that protect data and enterprises, as well as the professionals that are deploying them and protecting organizations. It’s going to only get more wild out there.
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Trump: I called Google Maps to change the name of the Atlantic Ocean to Trump Ocean. Sundar said, “No, no, no. This time I'm not doing it.” He said, “Oceans are different, sir. They cover a lot of countries. Please don't ask us to do that.” So we'll probably pass. Let's keep it the Atlantic Ocean.

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

‼️ PHP UPDATE: The Dutch parliament, the Dutch national cyber agency and Finland's central government have pulled websites offline ahead of the PHP patch. Finland's state IT centre Valtori is shutting down public-facing central government web services. The National Land Survey of Finland is already down. In the Netherlands, the Tweede Kamer, the NCSC and the Dutch Data Protection Authority are offline. So are tech site Tweakers and NotuBiz, which runs council information for 100+ local governments. The University of Vienna switched off its websites, webmail and Moodle. The University of Freiburg and Finland's Haaga-Helia have taken services down too. Fur Affinity, Pinboard, explain xkcd and every wiki on Miraheze are dark as well. Valtori says its shutdown is a precaution, not the result of an attack or breach. PHP was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, it initially stood for Personal Home Page PHP's fix is due at 14:00 UTC today.

HOW TO GET CLAUDE CODE TO "VIBEHACK" ANY SMART DEVICE IN YOUR HOUSE (its actually much easier than i thought): 1. open Claude Code on a laptop that's on your home wifi 2. ask it to "scan my network, list every device with its make and model, and tell me all the possibilities of what you could fix, edit, or control on each one" 3. pick one and let it cook (it'll ask you if it needs you to press a button or plug something in) for example...one guy added AirPlay to their 15-year-old TV. another turned an old Kindle into a family dashboard with the day's schedule and incoming deliveries. another got their washer and dryer to announce out loud when the laundry's done. there's way more possible than you'd think, so let Claude show you what your own stuff can do. just run it on your own network, and read the commands before you approve them.
