1. Today has been the first time I have felt ready to go through the FAI determination in close detail. Sheriff Collins has written an exemplary determination and we sincerly thank him.

You cannot ‘improve’ a system so embroiled with human suffering. You cannot work in partnership with organisations who cannot be held accountable. Apologies are empty without action. Katie Allan. William Lindsey. Jonathan Beadle ❤️

Here are 2 pieces I wrote when I broke the story of William Lindsay's suicide in Polmont in 2018. They expose failings in the prison & the care system. I hope the findings of the FAI into his death & Katie Allan's, released tomorrow, are utterly damning. scotsman.com/news/politics/t…

£881.1mil for prisons £25mil for community justice You do the math…
We are investing £4.2 billion across the justice system in 2025-26 which will continue to keep communities safe, reduce crime and re-offending and support frontline services and victims and witnesses.

A timely reminder:”Children who are in conflict with the law, particularly children who may be committing more serious and/or violent offences, are themselves vulnerable, with complex needs and experience of social adversity”. ⬇️ to find out more on the support these children need

A lot of talk about today. It’s only as monumental as we make it. The work starts today. Show me rights made real. Then I’ll tell you the significance of the bill. #rightsmadereal

A monumental step in Scottish youth justice, the most significant shift since kilbrandon itself…
Today and tomorrow will see the Scottish Parliament debate, and hopefully pass, the groundbreaking Children’s Care and Justice Bill.

This emotive and eloquent essay stopped me in my tracks, the importance of this type of work is so stark, particularly at this moment, ‘the direct descendant of collective silence is collective forgetting’. A must listen

Behaviour in schools report: majority of children and young people behave well and no cause for concern… What is causing the behaviour for the minority of children and how are we going to support them ? That should be the issue we are discussing. Exclusion not the answer

Limited confidence in one’s own abilities ‘to respond to indiscipline in the classroom’ or to ‘promote positive behaviour’ = higher perceptions of negative behaviour. Teachers unable to cope, trying to support children unable to cope …how would exclusion help this issue?

Daily I see school staff go above and beyond to keep kids in school in attempts to keep them safe. And see some of our most vulnerable yp return to school as a safe space, a place to access support and be with adults they can trust. That’s what we need to support and increase
