The new menubar management in macOS 27 is a big PITA. It broke any menubar management software, no matter what they claimed, and make the experience so much worse. It's an amazing feature for, let's say, my dad, who has like a couple of icons and don't care, not much for me that like to see some icons and have some hidden that show only when I need (It's working only with icons that would be hidden by the notch or app menus, not configurable, and anyway, the visible number of icons change depending of the resolution, so I have a lot more displayed when on a monitor, which I don't want, but still want the being accessible). Not sure I'm clear, but I had to vent. I tried to let it go, tried to found solution after a while so apps could fix things, but I need to go back to letting it go...

What most tech jobs call soft skills are the hard skills of every developer advocate: communication, empathy, adaptability, sociability, curiosity, and so on. As long as you're technical and eager to learn, you can always master a new programming language, API, SDK or product. Explaining complex concepts clearly, adapting to different audiences, and connecting with developers on a human level can be learned too, but they're harder to learn. They're also fundamental to the success of anyone working in developer relations.

If you wait until your ideal customer needs your software or service before you talk to them, you may have already lost the sale. They'll go to your competitors, because they heard about them before they became your ICP. That's one of the reasons developer relations is critical for tech companies: we talk to everyone, whether they need us right now or not. We build awareness of the product, directly and indirectly, so we're on their mind. Of course, that doesn't mean we can't focus or prioritize our audience! The day they go from "not a fit" to a potential customer, because they moved to a new project or started a new job, they'll remember the people they connected with, and the product those people represent. Heck, they might even become an advocate and mention your product to a colleague in another department, or to a friend who is, right now, the person who could become a user and eventually a customer. Everyone matters to us, and there's a method to what looks like madness to most!
