We now know that strong #FoundationalLearning should begin early. But, how much priority should Uganda🇺🇬 give to quality #ECD and pre-primary learning in building the literacy, numeracy, #LifeSkillsAndValues children need later in life?
Grateful to have hosted Bernard Kamau from @gricafrica at #FICHUganda. Since 2021, this partnership has strengthened foundational learning through the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, advanced girls’ empowerment, built CBOs' capacity in Uganda, and invested in youth leadership, career development, growth and mentorship. Bernard’s support to our team was generous, practical, and timely. Thank you for walking with us. #FICHGRICimpactsUg #FoundationalLearning #TaRL

In our recent #LifeSkills poll, creative thinking came out on top with 33.9% of responses, ahead of problem-solving (32.3%), self-awareness (24.2%), and collaboration (9.7%).
Encouragingly, parents do not need special materials to nurture creative thinking. Everyday stories, chores, discarded boxes, bottle tops, and simple household problems can all give children the space to imagine, experiment, and discover different ways of doing things.
We thank you for this feedback.

In the long run, AxSEL’s focus is continental: strengthening education systems and practitioners to design, deliver and sustain quality #SEL, from its foundations and curriculum design to pedagogy, assessment and sustained institutional practice.

New @worldbankdata from the Human Capital Index Plus 2026 shows that gains made by girls in education can fade as they move into work. In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, 36% of young women aged 20–24 are neither working nor studying, compared with 23% of young men.
As we take stock-nearly one year after our #WhatWorksInGirlsEducation conference, we ask: what has changed for girls and women in your workplace?

Kick off the week by giving #children what they need to: #play at school, home, and in our communities. A broad body of evidence, including from @UNICEF and @UNESCO, suggests that #play helps children build confidence, solve problems, communicate, and strengthen literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
