Milgram wanted to test how much pain people would inflict on strangers in order to be compliant with directions from authority. Sounds familiar? He paid subjects $4.50. Fauci used donuts. Covid was a global Milgram experiment. Many of us were in that special 33% who refused to jolt innocent people with painful electrical zaps, a la Milgram. The rest? Our own friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, healthcare providers, teachers? Peer pressure. Fear pressure. The stomach dropping, “what if’ing” currency of the anti-choice, vax at any cost crowd. Cowardice. The worst of high school cliques. What drives the craven??
