opus 5.5 is underratedly good at orchestrating footage from lower quality, open source models for ~80x less than sota video models see quality comparison here in squid game demo a 15-second 1080p clip costs ~$11.31 using the seedance api with references, but minimax released h3 as open weights, and fastH3-omni (a sped-up h3 that takes reference images, video, and audio) went fully open today. self-hosted on one B200, it renders a 15-second clip in ~75 seconds at ~$6.75/hr, about $0.14 a clip (768p, before upscaling) the gpu bills by the hour whether it’s busy or not, so self-hosting pays off when you’re making a lot of video (a movie, creative tooling, or some longer project). one card does ~48 clips an hour. for smaller runs, reactor’s hosted fastH3-omni api is ~$0.18 a clip ($0.0125/sec) with no gpu to manage, still ~60x cheaper than seedance. to be clear, the clips themselves aren’t seedance quality - when you put any single fastH3-omni clip next to a seedance clip and seedance wins. the quality comes from what happens when opus stitches the clips together. using your claude subscription, a coding agent running opus 5.5 can turn your concept into a storyboard, keep characters and voices consistent across shots, review every take for artifacts and errors, reshoots what drifts, and cut the 5–15 second clips into one natural scene. no single clip matches seedance's output because it is the best video model, but the finished scene comes super close, and I think that's incredibly cool !
