College Baseball Program of the Day #006: Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 🐶⚾ In May, the No. 8 seed Bulldogs won the 2026 Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, the third national title in program history (2012, 2019, 2026). They did it the hard way. After a 5-0 loss to IU Southeast put them in the elimination bracket, they won five straight: 11-0 over Johnson, 10-3 over IU Southeast, 8-5 over Southeastern, a 16-14 win over William Carey in the longest nine-inning game in World Series history (4 hours, 17 minutes), and then a 21-3 rout of No. 1 seed Taylor in the title game. That 18-run margin is the largest in NAIA championship history, and the 22 hits set a World Series record. The resume: 🏆 3 NAIA national championships (2012, 2019, 2026), one of only three active NAIA programs with three or more 🏆 9 Avista NAIA World Series trips, including three straight (2024 runner-up, 2025, 2026 champions) 📈 2026: 49-15, AAC Tournament champions, Kingsport Opening Round champions 📈 Six straight 40-win seasons, including 56-8 in 2022 and 56-10 in 2019 📈 17 straight NAIA national tournament appearances ⚾ 3B Allan Gil Fernandez: World Series MVP, four homers in Lewiston, NAIA First Team All-American ⚾ OF Kolton Reynolds: 5-for-5 with a homer and 5 RBI in the title game, World Series Gold Glove, Second Team All-American ⚾ Josh Shelly (1B) and LHP Justin Jackson: Second Team All-Americans Head coach Billy Berry is 837-277-1 at TWU and 883-334-1 in 21 seasons as a college head coach, and 2026-27 is his 20th season in Athens. Pitching coach Daniel Wood, a former D1 recruiting coordinator at Longwood, was the 2026 NAIA Ball Assistant Coach of the Year. Logan Fleener is the recruiting coordinator and Jace Wilson is the graduate assistant. The pro pipeline is real: 72 former Bulldogs have moved on to pro ball since 2006, and five TWU alums have reached the big leagues, including Tom Browning, who threw a perfect game for the Reds and won the 1990 World Series, and Jim Henderson, who closed for the Brewers.
