Black History Month is supposed to be a community-driven celebration. It is supposed to be time for us to amplify and educate. It is not supposed to be a time for us to expect any other communities to do this work on our behalf.

you hear stories about how people win the lottery and it ruins their life, destroys their relationships, and ends up leaving them destitute. i want it known that would not happen to me. if i won the lottery id be very happy. it would easily work out well for me.

Obi Egbuna, a Nigerian man, was one of the founding members of the British Black Panther party. Olive Morris — Jamaican, was a key member, along with Liz Obi. Linton Kwesi Johnson, Neil Kenlock, both Jamaican, Altheia Jones-LeCointe, Trinidadian. We owe them peace in the diaspora
Britain had their own Black Panthers founded in the late 60s with members from across the diaspora, including Jamaicans, Nigerians and others. I think the conversations at the moment completely miss out huge chunks of our history here.

i think this whole situation just exemplifies the state of uk rap. biggest talking point rn is a white man citing racist tropes in his bars. it’s low still. especially in this current sociopolitical climate. it’s not a mistake. if u can’t see that… beans for brains

When we speak of being Black British & what it means, Sway’s name will come up as one of the 1st who helped pave the way for the rising group of African kids in London(esp in regards to pride in one’s heritage) A Black, British, African (Ghanaian) man from East London. RIP Sway
