🗣️ Fred Vesti had this to say about an open seat on the grid after his FP1 outing...
"There are discussions about a seat and I’ve got my eyes on that seat. I believe I would be very, very good in that car and to be in Formula 1 has been my goal ever since I started driving. I’m more motivated than ever, I’m extremely hungry to be on the grid."

one might say that the appeal coming mostly from the drivers, not the cars or the racing, is how it's always been

And in my view it's very hard for this product "bubble" to burst because it's hard to replace. Sure other forms of racing exist but they don't have the F1 drivers in them.
Drivers matter more than racing. That is why comments like "F1 fans don't need watch every race" exist.

F1 has the tagline of "the pinnacle of motorsport" since forever. And that directly influences the casual fanbase for the longest time. Why should I be bothered with watching other forms of racing when F1 is "the superior product"

There's no one group of fans to blame for this, but it needs to be said that the FOM is not afraid to alienate more invested fans to pursue the casual audience, since there's always more to be gained from the latter.
I'm afraid that mentality isn't going to change soon.

From the perspective of a casual fan who loves to engage in discussions, I am guaranteed to have a certain group of people who watches and is invested into F1. Unlike your Indycar, Nascar, WEC or IMSA.
This social aspect matters imo

Here's where the star power thing comes in. F1 combines celebrity culture and sports so well it's very good at getting new people invested. The majority of our fanbase eat every bit of marketing up. Like fans of stars who want to know a bit more about them, F1 fans does the same

More and more people actively seek out unique interests because we're afraid to be seen as boring.
F1's boom capitalises on the market of fans who don't necessarily have to be into sportsball, but still enjoys the atmosphere. It's "new sport", especially for people Stateside.

🧵 On the whole F1 bubble discussion:
The one advantage F1 has over all other forms of motorsport is its star power. That won't change in the short term. Social media and marketing amplifies this edge.
F1's appeal comes mostly from the drivers, not the cars or the racing.
A stunning pole position by @alexmarquez73 with @marcmarquez93 and @37_pedroacosta on the front row 👏

Confirmation from the FIA that an error has been made in calculating Colton Herta's SL points.
It comes down to his IndyCar finishing position in 2025, where he finished tied on points with Felix Rosenqvist. As IndyCar has revised the standings to drop him to P7, he still needs another point!
