‘Pedestrians are at the top of the urban transport hierarchy’ – City of Edinburgh Council, 2020 "The primary function of the Road Authority when co-ordinating road works is to minimise the delay and disruption to all road users" Paul Laurence, Director of Place, CEC, 2021
Utter madness on Lothian Road. No clear route for pedestrians crossing East Fountainbridge. Lothian Rd ped crossing is vehicle activated by traffic on East F/B - which is closed. Ped's giving up waiting for crossing to activate. @lmacinnessnp @sto_paul @LivingStreetsEd

Hasn't it been closed for 6 months already? Council leaders put pedestrians at the top of the travel hierarchy, so why hasn't it been repaired? Will it turn in to another Harrison Road bridges that still haven't reopened after nearly 2 years?
Path Closure - The Kinauld Tannery Footbridge on the Water of Leith Walkway (NCN75), east of Waulkmill Loan, west of Currie, Kirkgate, will be closed from tomorrow following inspection findings likely for sometime. A signed diversion will be in place via Lanark Road and Kirkgate.

Still no news on when the George IV Bridge hotel works will end. We're also told that it's not possible to improve the pedestrian 'tunnel' to Lawnmarket. Councillors and council officers are all frustrated too but the Council unfortunately seems to have very limited influence.

Martin Lewis has asked the public for simple, inexpensive and broadly uncontroversial changes that could make Britain work a little better. What better place to start than with putting an end to street scars? We can hold utility companies to account for scarring our streets with just a few changes to legislation that will: 🚧Make them put pavements back exactly as they found them and increase the fines for failing to do so. 🚧Require them to pay the full cost of restoring damaged pavements to the original standard. Find out more...
Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen. Please share.

Doesn't actually say to not ride on the pavement
We've seen an increase in bicycles being used on pavements and being ridden in an erratic or unsafe manner. Please remember: 📣 Wear appropriate kit 📣 Be aware of your surroundings 📣 Follow the rules of the road 📣 Ride at a safe speed 📣 Stay focused 📣 Respect pedestrians

I do enjoy seeing what prioritising pedestrians looks like on the ground. This really promotes walking and wheeling for everyday journeys.

Thanks. Unsure “emergency” as it’s been like this a couple of days & no works overnight. There has been poor pedestrian management this morning. Surely a traffic light control would have been much safer for everyone having to walk in the road! A primary school is in Canaan Ln!

Do you remember when ‘A-boards’ clogged up Edinburgh’s pavements? We don’t want to see them return, as a petition to Thursday’s Transport and Environment Committee asks. We still have plenty of (perhaps even more!) pavement clutter!

Summer Streets pedestrianised Cowgate. Another piece of Council legislation ignored by the drivers especially Ubers. Police Constable on Cowgate said “what do you expect me to do, stop cars?” “Well aye I do!”

South Bridge is currently a walking disaster!
5pm this evening and South Bridge is packed. Trip hazard and congestion enabler laying flat on pavement.

In @Edinburgh_CC the pedestrian always comes……after the important task of advertising fringe shows. This junk is taking up more than half the width of the pavement. What’s the excuse? How do locals benefit?

Can someone explain the new road layout beside the Kings Theatre? Now a free vehicle parking area?

Edinburgh conservatives release their alternative plans for George Street. To relieve congestion a third lane will be added in each direction.

Edinburgh trans can't run to Leith due to fire on princes street. Edinburgh Trams originally arrived in the city on the back of lorries. Why not transport a few down to Leith using lorries?

Replying to @theSpurtle
The Council can’t care, police or use the gardens they have now eg Princes Street Gardens butchered 59 trees and half the year a commercial fairground

Interesting to see that Edinburgh Council officers are ignoring the councils stated policy of prioritising pedestrians. Meanwhile councilors are saying how wonderful it all is.

The grant for Picardy Place 'public realm' is, by the way, almost exactly the same as the annual budget for footway maintenance across the whole of the @Edinburgh_CC area (£3.5m - now frozen for four years).
For this, @Edinburgh_CC applied for - and got - £3.338 million from @scotgov 'active travel' funds (See Business Bulletin, March 2024: bit.ly/4deA1iP) How many dreadful pavements could that have sorted?
