#BREAKING: Patrick Stewart, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘X-Men’ star, dead at 86 ctvnews.ca/entertainment/art…
Is it the Crystalline Entity from Star Trek?! 😱
Nope (thankfully): here is the Crab Nebula (M1), a supernova remnant that’s 6,500 light-years away.
It took about 4 hours of exposure from my backyard in Saskatoon to bring out these intricate filaments of gas and dust.

Let us continue to pray together for peace. The day after tomorrow, on 27 October, let us join in spirit with the heads of churches and religious leaders who will gather in Assisi to mark the 40th anniversary of the meeting convened by Saint John Paul II. Never before has it been so clear that wars, as well as sowing death and destruction, impoverish and harm the world. May the Lord inspire choices of dialogue and peace! #PrayTogether
It’s my clearest image of Saturn yet!
I took several minutes of video through my telescope & astrophotography camera. Then, to remove atmospheric distortion, I took the best 10% of frames and stacked them.
After some deconvolution & colour adjustments, here is the result! 😊
This was fun astrophotography! 35 million light years away: Silver Sliver Galaxy.
According to NASA, “If we could travel across space and time to see our own galaxy from the outside looking in, it would probably look a lot like Caldwell 23,” aka NGC 891, Silver Sliver Galaxy.
Hey @Delta, I wish to give huge kudos to the crew & passengers on this morning’s flight 1571, STL to ATL. Everyone cared for the medical situation on board incredibly well. Very very well done.🙌🙏
Been very much enjoying the Canon Law Society of America convention in St. Louis this week. Excellent sessions so far.
Sad of course that the Roughriders lost yesterday, but quite enjoying the conference.

“Lord, the one you love is sick.”
Pray for Pope Leo today!
Pope Leo XIV has arrived at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday afternoon to remove a "small, localized nodule" from his lung.

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
One ring to rule them all
(or several, for Saturn)
It’s been a while since I’ve imaged Saturn. You can also see the moon Titan!
I took many frames & then used AutoStakkert to stack the best ones. Then I used some deconvolution and sharpening to produce the final image.
Enjoy!

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
More astrophotography!
I’m pleased with how this one turned out, after 14.5 total hours of exposure time from my Saskatoon backyard:
Question Mark Nebula ❓, 2900 light years away.
The dot is the Little Rosette Nebula, 7500 light years away.
Enjoy!
