I just need to say this...... As a woman, I do NOT feel the need for men dressed in black, some who choose to wear balaclavas, claim they are out to protect me and other women,in fact, I find that claim offensive and patronising! Do these men think women are weak ?

I have hedgehogs in my garden,my garden isn't doused in chemicals,I have created access into my garden,I've a little wood pile,grass left longer,leaf litter left lying,I have a pond,I leave out food and water and have 2 hedgehog houses,AKA wildlife friendly gardening!
I used to have hedgehogs living in the garden that I would see every night and share photos and videos of regularly: there were at least three different individuals including the named resident female Henrietta.
This was until landlord of the neighbouring property decided to clear their entire garden— all of the trees, all the shrubs, all the bramble, everything was torn up and thrown out.
They also tore down the shared fence between our gardens which had been an old wooden fence covered in ivy, with plenty of gaps for the hedgehogs to pass through. They built a brand new 6ft tall impenetrable fence.
The construction of this fence may seem minor but it means that wildlife like hedgehogs can no longer pass through. The removal of the plants from that garden means that the hedgehogs lost a huge part of their foraging and living area.
I have not seen a single hedgehog in our garden since the neighbour made these changes. I don’t know if it’s because they can’t get in past the new fences, because they were scared away, or possibly because they were killed in the renovations.
I look for Henrietta often and wonder what happened to her. Did she get fenced out of our garden permenantly? Did she get taken away with the branches and leaf litter? Did she get fenced inside the neighbours garden and find herself unable to get back out? I’ll probably never know.
I’ve made some gaps in the new fence now and though I wait for the hedgehogs to return, it has been several months now and I still haven’t seen any.
Hedgehogs are a Red List species in the UK, yet landowners seemingly have no requirement to consider them whatsoever in any renovations they make. I pleaded with the neighbouring landlord (via some very patronising estate agents) to leave some habitat intact. They ignored me.

The oil and gas Scots were told was running out has magically appeared in the waters off the coast of Scotland, gas which will supply around 1.4million homes apparently, wonder where those homes will be ? In Scotland, no chance ! Will bills be lowered, NO CHANCE! SHAM...YES!

You know that phrase..... " you don't poop on your own doorstep" ? not sure this wee hedgehog got the message,well, it dropped a "message" right at the doorstep ofthe hog house Ewwww ! I think though there may have been a hog already in there ?
Now THAT is a carrot ! freshly harvested from the back garden for tomorrows evening meal of stewed sausages, I might though keep it to make a big pan of lentil soup instead, this 1 carrot is roughly 3 decent carrots from a supermarket EEK !

Wee hedgehog seems to be using the house I bought YAY !! My face lit up knowing that I have offered not only a safe garden,no chemicals used to kill beasties it will eat,garden not overly tidied,it has a safe haven to over winter too

I know people are worried about fuel prices. And I get it. You get to the pump, watch the numbers climb, and wonder why it's costing so much more than it used to.
The reality is that global events are pushing up costs, and families here at home are feeling the impact.
But I won't accept that there's nothing I can do to help.
That's why from today, you'll be able to see petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps, compare nearby stations and find the cheapest option before you fill up.
It's a small change, but if there's a practical way to help people keep more money in their pocket, I'll do it.
