"Mayor Zohran Mamdani's NYPD is poised to sign a three-year, $750,500 no-bid contract with Israeli surveillance firm Cognyte for FalcoNet, an AI-driven device that mimics a cell tower to track phones and can be mounted on police cars and drones or hidden in a backpack, the New York Daily News reported. Cognyte won a tender to sell intercept spyware to Myanmar's state telecom weeks before the 2021 military coup, Reuters previously reported. Meta banned the firm the same year, saying its customers used fake accounts to target journalists and politicians in Kenya, Mexico and Indonesia. The firm is part of an Israeli surveillance industry that grew big as a result of the military's monitoring of Palestinians, whose phone calls Israel's Unit 8200 has intercepted and stored by the millions, including to carry out genocide in Gaza and enforce a brutal illegal occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank." From @DropSiteNews yesterday
Zohran is doing such a good job as mayor that the controversies are getting progressively more ridiculous. First it was installing a bidet, then greeting AOC at a memorial, now playing pickup basketball after hours.

Look around, right now, and notice who is reconsolidating around power, even as they fundraise off "saving democracy." Notice who offers you handwringing settler politician sympathies to bypass the global context of settler supremacist violence. Look quickly. Remember. 🪨

Black New Yorkers are 45% of NYCHA residents, 40% of NYC's eviction cases, and 44% of NYC’s homeless population. Mamdani’s privatizing public housing, underfunding Right to Counsel, and cutting housing assistance is a continuation of policies forcing out Black New Yorkers!
“The population of Black children and teenagers down by 19% from 2010 to 2019.” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani says New York has lost more than 200,000 Black New Yorkers over the past few decades and says it’s not for a lack of love for this city, but they just haven’t been able to afford New York. Has the Elbit left called this out yet? Will they act more outraged by Brad Lander openly mourning two Nazi soldiers than by the fact that NYC pension funds increased their investments in Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems during the Gaza genocide under his watch? Someone tell @EmmaVigeland and @mattxiv to come get their boy.
I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured. I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response. I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image. For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.

To sum up my feelings on You Can See Everything: If you watch it and don't feel at least a little bit sorry for Elizabeth Holmes, you have no heart But if you watch it and actually think she was innocent, you have no brain

I notice when *sincere* settlers in other genocidal colonies defend the "important message" of handwringing settler documentaries feat. genocidal soldiers. All I hear is settlers saying only other settlers feel real or make them feel at all. Don't get got by that core racism!
I'd be so ashamed if GENOCIDE APOLOGISTS, GENOCIDE ENABLERS, GENOCIDE PROPAGANDISTS, & SETTLER CITIZENS WHO REFUSE TO LEAVE THE GENOCIDAL COLONY were the ones who gave me (citizen in another genocidal settler colony/former imperial throne) information or emotions about Palestine.

What’d I say would happen? A politician goes to the West Bank, gets arrested knowing he’ll be safely released, then turns the moment into thousands of likes. But Palestinians defending their own land? They get imprisoned for years, abused in unimaginable ways, killed and forgotten. Brad had power back home. He could’ve divested NYC pensions from the bombs killing Palestinians. He chose not to. Stop confusing political theater with solidarity. Stop letting politicians turn Palestinian suffering into a photo op. For god sakes, I’m sick of these devils.
I’ve been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank. The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn’t a crime under any law I know.

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch's office announced Monday it had completed its review of the shooting that killed one-year-old Kohen Wiley, and that the "use of force was justified," meaning the state will not bring criminal charges in the case. Kohen's family and local activists are demanding the release of police video of the shooting, which authorities have yet to make public. The toddler was shot and killed on June 14 when a Senatobia, Mississippi police officer, identified in state records as Sgt. Hunter Foster, fired into a moving car with Kohen, his mother, and his mother's friend in a Walmart parking lot while responding to a shoplifting call over alleged stolen diapers. Kohen was sitting in his mother's lap. The friend, who was driving, was also shot and wounded. Kohen's mother has denied she or her friend stole anything. Neither have been charged with shoplifting or any other counts, according to online state and county court records. Monday's ruling comes weeks after Senatobia fired its police chief over racist language, and as Foster has been accused in an internal complaint of making a racist remark to a Black colleague two days before the shooting.

I don't believe she said any of that privately, but I agree with Ta-Nehisi Coates that people should really think about how they want to lose. Her running on "I will continue this genocide" will forever be her legacy
Should Kamala Harris have spoken out on Gaza? “I think how she lost actually mattered,” says Ta-Nehisi Coates. Coates joins Vanity Fair’s global editorial director Mark Guiducci for this episode of Fair Game. Watch the full conversation: vanityfair.visitlink.me/xUIS…

🚨#BREAKING: Absolutely WILD footage has emerged from Atlanta where an apartment complex now uses "robot security dogs" to patrol the area at night. The robot dogs also seem to speak in Indian accents to the residents. I've never seen anything like this before... insane!!!

capitalism is strangling itself
My neighbor's car got totaled in a hit-and-run last week, so he went to use his insurance payout of $11,000 to buy a clean, 10-year-old Honda Civic. Every single lot he visited told him the exact same thing: they don't sell cars under $15,000 for cash anymore. One sales rep pulled him aside and admitted: "Our corporate managers lock all budget cars in the back unless you agree to place a $2,000 down payment and sign a 72-month loan." When my neighbor pointed out that financing an 11-year-old car for 6 years means paying $18,000 total for an $11,000 vehicle, the rep just shrugged. They don't want working people buying reliable transportation outright. They want everyone locked into an inescapable monthly bill on cars that will break down before the loan even ends.

Columbus documented the trafficking of Indigenous girls. In a 1500-letter preserved in the Spanish Navarrete archives, Columbus wrote: “There are many dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand.” And: “I have ordered that a girl of that age be given to each of the men who asked for one.” Activists didn't ruin his legacy. His own words revealed who he was. The first historical figure America taught its children to celebrate, was a human trafficker.

The progression from this to where he is now is insane to me. Did he genuinely believe in this activism back then, or was it politically convenient while building popular support for a mayoral run? I’m not going to pretend I know his intentions, but the pattern is hard to ignore. We’ve watched supposed allies sound fearless before running for office, only to get elected and start accommodating the very forces they once claimed to fight.
This was Zohran Mamdani only 13 days after October 7. No one could have predicted that this unhinged radical would become New York's next mayor. Israel had not yet launched its ground invasion into Gaza and he was already screaming genocide tnx @mazemoore for that video
