@josepalay

Having done a lot of corporate engagements while working on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, I think this point is key: trust is earned.
Some companies were forthright, spoke plainly about concerns and disagreements. I took them seriously and even argued their side in staff discussions. We disagreed but their concerns needed to be heard and understood.
Some companies denied, lied, or otherwise dealt in bad faith, e.g. denying capabilities existed for tracking product origin that CBP and companies both used (a real argument was about the limits of those tools). Those ones on the other hand...
Nvidia has mocked and belittled concerns and skepticism, reportedly pushed to get people fired (not just in think tanks), tried to intimidate intellectually.
I think Nvidia could still find willing partners but they would have to respect that their commercial interests might not be the same as U.S. interests, that they might understand one part of the Chinese system while having gaps on others, and that they're better off long-term if their critics respect them (which manifests as I know we'll disagree but I have to hear their perspective) instead of thinking the company is dishonest or dangerous.
Chris is right. Nvidia does have a lot to offer. And many people in DC know how to get over grudges or sour grapes when there are opportunities to make genuine progress. Here's hoping for a better future.
Strong article in @theinformation on the trust deficit that Nvidia faces in Washington. As I argue at the end of this piece, "There are so many ways that policymakers could benefit from Nvidia's incredible technical expertise and deep market insight to help craft policies that both better protect U.S. national security and help U.S. businesses thrive. But that type of partnership requires trust, which has to be earned."

The US rolling out the red carpet for Saudi Arabia to develop nuclear weapons—and lead to far more nuclear proliferation elsewhere—really does feel like the natural end-state of all of this corruption and kleptocracy.

Trump was on the ballot tonight. The President had a 35% favorable rating and voters disliked his gas prices, chaos, tariffs, abusing allies and hugging Putin. No one in the WH is willing to speak truth to the President. The GOP wants the Party of Reagan and Lincoln back.

Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, and Texas would all still be Republican right now if it wasn’t for MAGA. GOP needs to go back to its core conservative values and reject nihilistic populism.

To end its war against Ukraine, Russia has essentially demanded NATO’s withdrawal to the line of the Cold War, putting at risk 100 million Europeans from the Arctic to the Black Sea. Russia has not won its war in Ukraine. Do US negotiators want to entertain such Kremlin demands anyway?
The United States will mediate working-level negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi, advancing President Trump’s mission to end the war. Discussions will focus on post-war security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts, and next steps toward peace.
Additionally, American negotiators will meet this week in Brussels with representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the EU, and NATO to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe’s post-war security architecture, and economic opportunities to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.
We look forward to building on the progress made in Kyiv, Oslo, and St. Petersburg toward a comprehensive, durable peace agreement that delivers lasting security for generations to come.
