I don't think people really understand exactly what kind of bullet a 30-06 is.
It's a big supersonic projectile. Supersonic. It travels faster than the speed of sound. It is very loud because they make a "sonic boom" as they break the sound barrier. They produce a shockwave. The shockwave creates cavitation when striking tissue. It blows flesh up.
That's why I prefer my 30-06 for deer. I don't have to directly hit the heart to destroy it and everything around it. Also, there has NEVER not been an exit wound. It goes through thick, hard leg bones and ribs, and out the other side every damn time.
I'm no "expert". I do have over 40 years of personal experience hunting deer and hogs.
Not even in my wildest dreams could I see any man take a 30-06 to the neck and it wouldn't decapitate him.
