Today, I celebrate HE Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress as he attains the milestone age of 70 years. An exemplary leader and quintessential public servant with a genuine heart for the people, HE Dr Kwankwaso’s outstanding record is best measured by the countless lives that have been touched and transformed by his governance, especially those of the less privileged and more vulnerable. God bless you and grant you many more years in joy, good health and distinguished service to humanity. May your tireless efforts to build our Nation be crowned with great success. Happy birthday Sir. Six years later, not much has changed. Same government, same playbook of fear and intimidation. Today, right here at the Lekki Toll Gate, citizens gathered peacefully to honor the lives lost six years ago during EndSARS. And how did the authorities respond? By firing tear gas at us. Let that sink in. Six years after a generation cried out for basic dignity, safety, and accountability in policing, a peaceful memorial is still met with an unprovoked tear gas attack? The message is loud and clear, they are still terrified of remembrance, they are still terrified of accountability, and they are still terrified of YOU speaking up. Expressing grief and sympathy is not a crime. Peaceful assembly and solemn reflection should not be met with state brutality and repression. Effective governance is not about silencing the streets. It is about building a system that listens, that protects, that includes and that provides for everyone. To every young person and resident carrying the vision of a better Lagos, never forget that your voice is powerful, that your vote carries your voice and that the ballot is the vehicle through which you can speak loudest and change the story. We remember, We rise. FD Ó Ti Yá. #EndSARS #Lagos #FunsoDoherty #OTiYa #NDC

"Government is not about those who hold office. It is about those who are served by it." — Tolani Animashaun, NDC Lagos State Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate. On Thursday, I introduced Tolani to Lagos. Not just as a running mate, but as a partner. Someone who understands that government is not a career. It is a responsibility. She spoke about a Lagos where opportunity is within everyone's reach. Where every community is heard and not just the ones with the loudest voices or the deepest pockets. Where government answers to the people who keep this city running, not the other way around. Better schools. Real opportunities for young people. Transparency in how public money is spent. That is the mission. A government that works for the people. Together, we can make it happen. And we will. Funso Doherty & Tolani Animashaun for Lagos 2027 Ó TI YÁ

Know the people asking for your vote. Meet The Lagos State NDC Gubernatorial Ticket: Funso Doherty and Tolani Animashaun. We’re a team with decades of experience across business, education and public service. We’re not career politicians but people who have built things, run things, and delivered. This ticket is united by one shared vision: a Lagos that works for everyone who lives here. Not just the few who can afford to ignore its failures. A better Lagos begins with knowing your choices. I spent Sunday evening with His Excellency, @PeterObi and other NDC Lagos Candidates hosted by the incredible members of the Obidient Movement Lagos. One thing is clear: We share one mission: to build a country and city that work for the people who live here every day. I remain grateful for the vision and leadership of our presidential candidate. I appreciate all those who show up with conviction and all those who worked behind the scenes to make the evening possible. The work continues and together, we move. FD Ó ti yá.

At the Gen Z town hall, a young woman told us that in the local government area she has lived for most of her life, the road by her house has needed repairs for about 15 years. She said that certain areas, the so-called "less developed" ones, seem to be left behind whenever development in Lagos comes up, and asked what plans we have for them. It was a powerful question that goes beyond just one road. It is about how neglect occurs and how it is felt. When that happens residents conclude they don't matter, whether because of demography or geography. No area of Lagos should ever feel that way. Her question also speaks to how devolution is key to effective government. No meaningful progress is possible without devolving power to local governments and building their capacity as real partners in governing, not emasculated subordinates. Now more than ever, it's time for a new way for Lagos. We cannot keep allocating huge resources on new contracts, many of which never get proper scrutiny, while neglecting the infrastructure we already have. My government will: 1. Fund, equip, empower and energize the works departments in our local governments, and coordinate them with the state agency, so that fixing a road no longer has to wait endlessly on Alausa. 2. Emphasize effective management to ensure we get the full benefit from existing infrastructure, even as we insist that government must be more judicious when we invest in new projects. No part of Lagos will be left behind under my watch. Ó ti yá; ọ̀nà tuntun yá. FD.

I want to say a big thank you to the organizers of The Platform Nigeria's Gen Z town hall yesterday. I also thank the young lagosians who sacrificed their public holiday to be there and the candidates who came and showed respect to our young Lagosians, the lifeblood of this city. As I told the young people in the hall: you are the biggest part of Lagos today. You are Lagos and Lagos is you. Every society is built on a social contract that should be sacred. The people work, contribute to society, pay taxes and are law-abiding, and government, on its part acts for the good of everyone. The question is: if a government does not keep its side of the bargain, what are you willing to do about it? Positive change is possible, but it starts with you. As you evaluate alternatives, you should interrogate ideas and consider the capacity and courage of candidates to deliver. Examine track records. What have they done before? At what scale? Who can vouch for them? Then come out for what you believe in. Next week, we will release details of our manifesto: specifics that we commit to deliver, how we will deliver it, and a scorecard to hold us accountable. Sign up at funsodoherty.org to see it, and to volunteer and canvass. If every one of you brings five people, we will change Lagos. As we travel across the state, our message is simple: it's time for a new way for Lagos. Ó ti yá; ọ̀nà tuntun yá. FD

Targeting and covering opposition posters in broad daylight. If this is what democracy looks like, then we as the electorate need to wake up and see what's happening clearly. An incumbent government that has to work so hard to hide its opponents' posters is telling us about how confident it really is in its own record. Because when you have built something to stand on, you don't need to tear down what others are building. You let the ideas compete. You let the people decide. But if you're covering your opponents posters in broad daylight, you've already told the people everything they need to know. FD Ó ti yá.

The best conversations about Lagos happen when the people living the reality are in the room. Like young people who wake up every day to a city that isn't working for them and who refuse to accept it. On October 1st, I'll be sitting down with Lagos's Gen Zs at the @ThePlatformNigeria Townhall. I’ll be answering your questions, so you can hold me to my word. Because a Lagos that works for everyone starts with conversations that don't avoid the hard truths. Looking forward to it. FD Ó ti yá.

Twice in recent weeks, Obafemi Hamzat and the APC have given us insight into how they see you. In August: can't afford rent? Move back in with your parents. This week: Lagos traffic is "not a problem, it's just a lifestyle." Daily soul-crushing traffic is not a lifestyle. It is governance failure. Vast numbers of Lagosians leave home before 5am and get back after their children are asleep. They lose hours of work, money on fuel and fares, time, health and wellbeing they will never get back. That is a cost to every household and every business in this state. Housing, public transportation and traffic are closely related problems. You cannot fix one without planning for the others. But the first step to fixing them is to acknowledge them. This government has ignored the pains of Lagosians for years. This is just the latest example. Lagos needs a government that acknowledges problems and uses its resources to solve them, not one that celebrates them. Inefficiency is not culture, it’s failure FD #OTiya
“Anyone who has crossed Third Mainland Bridge at 6 p.m. knows that Lagos traffic is not a problem; it is just a lifestyle.” At PODFEST Naija 2026, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat says the city’s traffic has become part of the everyday experiences that shape Lagos’ cultural identity.

Political parties are ultimately about people and structure, not just names or labels. In my conversation with Jimi Disu on the Timeless Podcast, one of the issues we discussed is the NDC, its relatively young political identity, and how we approach the journey ahead. Administratively, a party may be new. But the people within it are not new to politics, public service, or the work of building a movement. Many of us have come together with a shared sense of purpose, and that collective spirit remains at the heart of what we are building. We are approaching 2027 as a team — focused on what brought us together and, more importantly, what we believe we can achieve together. Watch the full conversation on the Timeless Podcast.
