Kannada is often called the Queen of Languages in Indian quizzes and popular culture. Acharya Vinoba Bhave specifically praised its script as the Queen of World Scripts for its clarity and logic.

Before 1956, people who spoke Kannada lived under five different rulers. One man from Bijapur spent his life trying to bring them together. On 1 November 1956 he finally saw it happen.
His name was Aluru Venkata Rao, from Bijapur.
He was born in 1880. At that time Kannada speaking land was split between the Bombay Presidency, the Madras Presidency, Hyderabad, Mysore and Kodagu.
He was a writer, historian and journalist. He joined Gandhi's movement in 1921.
He helped set up the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, pushed for Karnataka University, and started the Vijayanagara festival to remind people of their shared history.
Dharwad became the centre of the Ekikarana movement, the fight to unite all Kannada areas into one state.
On 1 November 1956 the Kannada speaking regions were finally joined together as Mysore State.
Aluru Venkata Rao was alive to see it. He went to the Virupaksha temple in Hampi and offered a pooja.
People gave him the title Karnatakada Kulapurohita.
On 1 November 1973 Mysore State was renamed Karnataka.

ನವೆಂಬರ್ 1, 1956 ರಂದು ಏಕೀಕರಣಗೊಂಡು "ಮೈಸೂರು ರಾಜ್ಯ" ಆದಾಗ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕುಲಪುರೋಹಿತರಾದ ಆಲೂರು ವೆಂಕಟರಾಯರು ಹಂಪಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕುಲದೇವಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಭುವನೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಿಗೆ ಪೂಜೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಏಕೀಕರಣ ಚಳುವಳಿಗೆ ನಾಂದಿ ಹಾಡಿದ್ದೇ ಧಾರವಾಡ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾವರ್ಧಕ ಸಂಘ ಏಕೀಕರಣ ಚಳುವಳಿಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಬಿಂದು.
ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಎಂದು ಮರುನಾಮಕರಣವಾಗುವ ದಶಕಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆಯೇ ಈ ಭಾಗದ ಹಲವು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊತ್ತಿದ್ದವು
(ಉದಾ: ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವಿವಿ, ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ,ಬೆಳಗಾವಿಯ KLE ಮತ್ತು KLS ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು).
ನಮ್ಮ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಇಷ್ಟು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತವಾಗಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಇಂದಿನ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯ ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟಿನ ಕೊರತೆ. ಇನ್ಮುಂದೆಯಾದರೂ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರೆಲ್ಲರಲ್ಲೂ ನಿಜವಾದ ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟು ಮೂಡಲಿ.
