“Not worth saving” views be damned. 1939 N. Larrabee (c1891) demo hold ends Oct 22nd. By Bettinghofer & Hermann who designed Chicago Landmarked 1925 N. Fremont (c1891) & Aldine Building at 909 W. Armitage and numerous workers' cottages. Something is wrong here 😡
DEMOLITION ALERT! 1939 N. Larrabee Street in Lincoln Park On the 90-Day Demolition Delay Designed by Bettinghofer & Hermann in 1891. Same firm that designed the Martin Schnitzius Cottage at 1925 N. Fremont Street, a Chicago Landmark completed the same year, the Aldine Building at 909 W. Armitage Avenue, now the Old Town School of Folk Music, and workers cottages throughout Chicago’s German immigrant communities. Preservation Chicago is advocating for the protection of this building with community members. redfin.com/IL/Chicago/1939-N…

Former Greek Church (c1912) converted to residential luxe compound (very cool inside & out) in Lincoln Park always does elaborate Halloween horror displays. This year it’s based upon The Odyssey. At night it’s illuminated and more spooky.

I see that a lot of heavy machinery is working away at Foundry Park (nee Lincoln Yards - north end) but why didn’t they save the A Finkl & Sons Co. archway sign? 🤔 From June 2024

The likely loss in Lenox, MA of "Spring Lawn" (c1904) by architect Guy Lowell due to intentional neglect - then claiming its too far gone and must be razed - ticks me off. Even the developer's study of the estate's condition rather rubs me the wrong way ⬇️; my photos (2012)
This has to be one of the most insane proposals I've heard of. If the commission goes for this then the great Berkshire ‘cottages’ are doomed. It’s a mansion that cannot be duplicated economically. From 13yrs ago

Meeting for today postponed to Oct 27. The Historical Commission will take testimony & decide whether Spring Lawn (& 2 other structures on site) slated for demolition should be designated “Preferably Preserved.” Such a determination would trigger Lenox’s 12-month demolition delay

In addition to Lenox Historical Commission's public hearing on Spring Lawn's proposed demo. There is (Nov 5th) a Special Town Meeting vote for appropriation of $20,000 towards an assessment of the property's condition. Determining if the owner's claims of 'too far gone' is valid.

Since Castleton Lyon (Lexington KY) won’t be sold conventionally it will be offered at auction this Wed (Oct 28) - images I took this morning. I suspect it will not be sold.
Castleton Lyon is a remarkable beautiful Lexington Farm. The Ryanair cofounding family raced Gio Ponti ❤️ 🎁 link: wsj.com/real-estate/luxury-h…

LOVED seeing Forever Young, T O Elvis & T O Password school today. Forever Young is a strong, but medium-sized horse, very well balanced. T O Elvis is a beast, gorgeous & powerful. Up against it with Englishman in the Sprint, but a major player. @BreedersCup @keenelandracing

WSJ: HOTW - this island estate in Canada (w/an excessive amount of vague items) was listed for sale in May 2026. It was $13,520,000 CDN through an obscure outfit called “Our Trusted Network” (OTN). Good for you in a sloppy article with facts hard to find. wsj.com/real-estate/luxury-h…

Rarely do I bash this vanity listing junk, but this gets my hackles up in all honesty. Blase references to purchase cost, improvement costs & then never citing the listing price. Blah 🤮 "if you have to ask you cannot afford" dinosaur sales pitch c2002. Yes its nice but ... meh

The May 2026 IG listed it @ $13,520,000 CDN but wait "put moron number two on the phone again" [a 'Midnight Run' (1988) reference] there was another price asked: $18,700,000🤯 likely Canadian. I think they have no idea what they want - or how to get it. instagram.com/p/DYUzXDbghpD/…
