Fascinating article regarding the science of reading. What works? Strong phonics instruction(Plus, all other four pillars) from a researched core curriculum, a structured RTI system, and teachers/leaders versed in brain based reading instruction.

As we are in the middle of the testing season, this is a good reminder. The results of a one time exam, at the end of an academic year, does not determine a childβs future, nor does it capture the full scope of a childβs learning or growth.
Yes. Reading science is more than SOR. There exists fascinating research on student motivation, and student self-efficacy that must also be considered. Students should see themselves as readers and also love reading to be successful.

Agree with the findings of this article. Schools must teach all five pillars of literacy and not phonics alone. Moreover, students need self-efficacy and metacognitive strategies that can often be left behind on phonics only programming.

For Tier 1, we NEED:
1. To believe ALL can learn at high levels
2. To realize WE have the ability it takes.
3. To know their learning is OUR responsibility.
4. To apply our ability to our responsibility & design the BEST Tier 1 possible for our learners.
4 basic needs.
