Recently I was talking with a friend about universal geniuses. And something struck me. Florence, 1480–1510. Same city, same moment: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Botticelli, Pico della Mirandola. Raphael right behind them. They walked the same streets. Europe, 1600–1700. Galileo, Kepler, Descartes, Pascal, Huygens, Newton, Leibniz. In two generations, we got calculus, modern mechanics, probability theory, and the scientific method. Athens, 470–320 BC. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Sophocles, Phidias, Thucydides. One century, one city, and the foundations of Western thought were laid. Europe, 1890–1930. Poincaré, Hilbert, Einstein, Marie Curie, Tesla, Planck, Bohr, then von Neumann. Always the same pattern. In every great era, the West had 15 to 20 minds of this caliber alive at the same time. People who could touch everything and push the frontier of several fields at once. Today we have one. Just one. Elon Musk. And Elon is an anomaly. Not in the sense that he shouldn't exist. In the sense that the world we built is designed so that someone like him never emerges. Statistically, he shouldn't be here. Because what forged Elon was an absolutely insane move. October 2002. eBay buys PayPal. Elon walks away with roughly $180M. Anyone else buys an island and never works another day. He puts $100M into SpaceX, $70M into Tesla, $10M into SolarCity. Almost everything. On rockets and electric cars, two industries no sane person wanted to touch. 2006–2008. The first three Falcon 1 launches fail. Tesla is burning cash, the financial crisis hits, investors run. He has enough left for one last launch. Just one. He borrows money from friends to pay his rent. September 28, 2008. The fourth launch reaches orbit. December 23, 2008. NASA awards SpaceX a $1.6B contract. December 24, 2008. The Tesla round closes at the last possible hour. A few more days and everything collapses. That's what a genius is. Not just IQ. The ability to put everything on the table when the entire world tells you it's impossible, and be right. Now the real question: why do we only have one? Because a genius needs three things. The freedom to try. The right to get massively rich if it works. The right to fail without being destroyed. And that's exactly what the collectivist left and the technocrats have torn down across the West for the past 50 years. They turned success into suspicion. Making a lot of money became a moral failing. Taking risks became irresponsible. Rising above the crowd became an insult to equality. They stacked up norms, committees, permits, regulations written in Brussels by people who have never built anything in their lives. In Europe, Elon would never have been allowed to blow up three rockets. He'd have been stopped at the first form. They want to tax capital before it even exists, cap fortunes, redistribute what others created by risking everything. They replaced excellence with conformity. Our schools produce docile people, not dangerous ones. And a genius, by definition, is someone who disrupts. Their entire system is built to neutralize the people who disrupt. The result: where we should have 15 to 20 universal geniuses alive at the same time, we have one. Just one. And you want to put him in prison. You summon him before judges, you raid his offices, you insult him morning, noon and night, you dream of breaking up his companies. The man who lands rockets vertically and wants to take humanity to Mars. You're disgusting. History won't remember your names. It remembers Galileo, not the inquisitors who tried to silence him.

So great.
Through the VOICE trial, Terry is using his Neuralink implant to help fine-tune a brain-to-voice interface for himself and others who can’t speak. He trained the algorithm first by miming speech as best he could, then by simply thinking the words and hearing them come out in his own natural voice. Powered by Grok Voice from @spacexai

Elon Musk just described the formula that can turn any builder on Earth into a fraud, and it works on anyone who has ever shipped anything. Musk: “what tends to happen in the media is that they’ll report all the wrong ones and ignore all the right ones.” That is a selection function. Run any career through a filter that keeps every miss and deletes every hit, and any name on Earth comes out a fraud. The output was decided before the inputs arrived. Musk: “If you list my sins, I sound like the worst person on Earth, but if you put those against the things I’ve gotten right, it’ll make much more sense.” Select for failures, omit the denominator, publish the ratio. Musk: “the longer you do anything, the more mistakes that you will make cumulatively.” That is arithmetic, not incompetence. The method punishes output itself, because every attempt adds to the pile they can quote from. The only spotless records belong to people who never attempted anything. Critics keep perfect scores because nothing they say ever gets tested. Musk: “For example, for Tesla vehicle growth, I said I think we’ll do 50% and we’ve done 80%. So, but they don’t mention that one.” He underestimated his own company by thirty points and no outlet ran the headline. A miss in the direction of overdelivering does not fit the shape the format requires. Every prediction he lands is an indictment of the experts who called it impossible, and those experts share an industry with the people writing the coverage. The scoreboard is controlled by the team with the losing record. Musk: “It’s very rare that they do not come true.” Reusable rockets. Catching a booster out of the sky with mechanical arms. A satellite constellation covering the whole planet. Every one of them was called impossible by the same people now complaining about the timeline. Musk: “if there’s some radical technology prediction, the point is not that it was a few years late, but that it happened at all.” Late is what a schedule does to something real. Wrong is when the thing never exists. Collapsing those two into one word is how commentary gets to sound skeptical while risking nothing. He keeps getting marked wrong on the calendar and right on reality. Meanwhile the rockets land. The cars drive. The satellites connect. Progress has always been driven by people willing to be wrong in public and judged by people who never were. They kept the record. He kept the receipts. One of those gets remembered.

Staggering.
Terafab approximate size comparison between Giga Texas, the Pentagon, Apple Park, and the Mall of America. There has never been a building this large. Elon Musk says it will be the most valuable building by far.

Major disruption inbound.
SpaceX President & COO Gwynne Shotwell on @Starlink Mobile and its impact on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile: "Roughly, between them, $600 billion a year. I anticipate us to be able to acquire quite a few of their customers. Our service will be better. We will eliminate dead zones leveraging the satellites in orbit. It will be better during any natural disaster. I'm quite excited about Starlink Mobile."

All of these are great; some are truly super-human. FSD is 7X safer (and growing) than any human driver. The fleet effectively experiences a lifetime of human driving every 10 minutes.
Tesla has released a new video of FSD avoiding accidents/savings lives.

Elon Musk just proved every sighted person on Earth is blind. Your eye captures 0.0035% of the electromagnetic spectrum. You are not seeing the universe. You are seeing the sliver your biology decided was enough to keep you alive. That was never vision. That was a survival filter bolted onto your perception four hundred million years ago. No one has ever removed it. Musk: “Blindsight will enable those who have total loss of vision to be able to see again. Including if they have lost their eyes, or the optic nerve.” No eyes. No nerve. The entire optical system physically absent from the skull. Neuralink does not rebuild what broke. It routes around biology entirely. It streams synthetic signal straight into the visual cortex. Your eye never saw anything. Your brain did. Your brain sits in total darkness inside a vault of bone. It has never seen the sun. It has never seen anything. It builds reality out of whatever electrical signal the eye allows through. The eye is the bottleneck between your mind and the universe. Neuralink removes the bottleneck. Musk: “Maybe have never seen, were even blind from birth.” A human who has never perceived a single photon of light. Given sight for the first time. Not through medicine. Through engineering. Musk: “You can see in radar, you can see in infrared, ultraviolet.” Infrared is pouring off every surface in the room around you. Radio waves are passing through your body right now. Ultraviolet is painting patterns across everything you have ever looked at. You cannot see any of it. Your biology locked you out before you were born. Musk: “Superhuman capabilities.” The person born blind would not be restored to human sight. They would see more of the universe than any sighted person who has ever lived. The blind would out-see the sighted. You will not pity them. You will envy them. Musk: “Cybernetic enhancement.” Every human sense is a sensor converting the world into electrical signal. Replace the sensor and the brain does not care where the signal came from. It just processes. Your senses were never built to show you reality. They were built to show you just enough of it to survive. Evolution built a keyhole. We called it sight. Elon Musk is not fixing blindness. He is fixing sight.

This.

Egypt forgot how to build the pyramids. Rome forgot how to build the aqueducts. Some still carry water today. What they built still stands. Neither civilization remembers how they did it. Musk: “You look at great civilizations like ancient Egypt, and they were able to make the pyramids, and they forgot how to do that.” Musk: “And the Romans, they built these incredible aqueducts. They forgot how to do it.” No army invaded them. The knowledge just stopped getting used, and the moment it did, it was gone. Same collapse. Compressed into fifty years instead of a thousand. Musk: “In 1969, we were able to send somebody to the moon… Then the space shuttle retired, and the United States could take no one to orbit.” Musk: “People are mistaken when they think that technology just automatically improves… it will, by itself, degrade.” Capability doesn’t sit in a vault. It only exists inside the people doing the work right now. The second they stop, it doesn’t pause. It disappears. That should not scare you. It should focus you. Nobody loses a civilization to war. They lose it the moment they stop building. Nobody is owed the future. It belongs to whoever keeps building it.

FSD v14 Lite is now rolling out to AI3 early-access customers. Based on the feedback, will rollout to more customers over the next few weeks. This build distills the driving behavior from AI4’s v14 series into both the camera and compute config of AI3. It includes destination options and speed profiles on city roads, but more importantly significantly improved safety. We hope you’ll enjoy it, once the build ships wide.
