Mind blown what’s possible with Claude! 🤯 For years I’ve searched for apps or PSDs to create photo-realistic mockups of framed prints. The apps have unrealistic lighting and shadows and PSDs are fiddly and time-consuming to set up. So, I wondered what I could build in Claude. I never imagined it would be so good! In a few hours, I’ve been able to build a fully configurable 3D model with photo-realistic materials, textures, lighting, reflections, and cast shadows. These are not mockups. This is a fully functional tool. It’s incredible. The level of detail and realism is amazing! Would this be useful to others?

Wild. This stuff really excites me. Maybe one day I’ll get to build and tinker with robots at @Shopify but in the meantime, it’s got me thinking about how we could be prompting or using different models to teach them better to think for themselves. Fascinating.

Perhaps there’s a message here: that I need to go touch grass 😂 At @Shopify, we have virtually unlimited opportunity to ideate and tinker and experiment and brainstorm and build with AI. In my evenings and weekends, I’m quickly paralyzed when tinkering with @claudeai as I hit my limits in less than an hour with my “take your time and think this through” approach to leveraging the reasoning power of AI as a design thinking partner.

Tinkering is something everyone at @Shopify is encouraged to do every day. It’s so inspiring and so much fun. But, there can be a tendency to prematurely believe that the next thing you build will be the ultimate tool that others will use. The excitement leading up to @Shopify DotDev and Summit next week is incredible! Do other industries or platforms foster this level of camradarie and genuine joy of bringing together all sides of the ecosystem? It never ceases to amaze me year after year—and two decades in—that we’ve been able to nurture and grow such a vibrant community of passionate people. I have many lifelong friends through the Shopify ecosystem—many who were competitors (and we were friends even then) and many who are now colleagues. I’d love to think this isn’t unique to Shopify. But I suspect it’s not widespread in other industries. I don’t take for granted how special it is and I’m incredibly grateful. See you all next week 💚
