In the Wii series games, Wuhu Island is committed to clean air by only allowing electric vehicles. However, in Mario Kart 7, gas vehicles are used in the races. This implies that Mario made a deal with the Wuhu Island administration to receive exclusive pollution privileges.
ALT Pilotwings Resort states that guests are only allowed to drive electric vehicles on Wuhu Island. Earlier in the series, in Wii Sports Resort, this was phrased as "only electric vehicles are allowed on the island". However, in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart races take place on the island where the racers all use gas vehicles. This suggests that Mario gained special pollution privileges for his Mario Kart activities.
