My grandfather was a car dealer. As were many of my uncles and lots of my cousins. Many of them still are. He died when I was 12, but I spent a lot of time with him and most of my childhood and formative memories include him. He loved the possibilities of the future. He had one of the first “cell phones” in Maine. It took up the entire trunk of his car and it looked like a crazy person was talking on a rotary phone driving down the turnpike. He had a computer in his home office. I remember when I was in third grade I had to do a report on horses. He helped me type it into his computer and we printed it out and I turned it in. I got a bad grade because part of the report was about improving our handwriting. He constantly talked about the possibilities of the future. He embraced things like cell phones and computers as part of his every day life when others thought it was an extravagance or simply not practically applicable to every day life….. kind of like a super cooled, air jet flying car. As my wife and I watched the Tesla launch of the new roadster I could not shake his memory. What I would give to have had him with us watching a car drive upside down and fly over a line up of electric cars that have revolutionized driving. While I won’t be putting down $50K, or even $250K, to reserve a roadster I know in another universe my grandfather, Chauncey Crafts, probably did. Thank you @Tesla and @elonmusk for helping humanity dream about the possibilities of the future, and giving someone like me a moment to think about the past and the memory of a man that helped shape who I am today.

Campaign season or not, Susan Collins never stops working for Maine. She just secured $600,000 to train paramedics and emergency crews, backing up the rural ambulance services our towns count on.

Troy Jackson called Maine DSA’s endorsement a “badge of honor.” Abolish prisons. Erase borders. Ban private health insurance. Take more of your hard-earned money. That’s who’s cheering Troy Jackson on. And he’s proud of it.
